Great record Jeff!

Hi Gian

I am a lifetime fan and lover of DG music, as you know.  Start to finish I think "Life ...." is one of his most complete albums.  It just has a "flow" to the sequencing that makes each song the perfect follow-on to the previous song.

Have a nice weekend.

Jeff A

Thanks Jeff!

I think you and I bought this Japanese CD at about the same time after Ewemon's recommendation. I agree it's a cut above the original.

We did, Steve. Ewemon's recommendation was an excellent one .

Back to this that is turning to be an excellent record imho. Not because they're italians but my happines doubles. The guy that plays guitars in this band introduced me to NEU! records back in the late seventies/early eighties in his house here in our hometown. And one day he disappeared.

Ciao Egle!

The series of 12 extended play CDs she released last year are pretty good, dayjay.  £5 each on her website.

+1 Steve. In fact I would go further no more remasters full stop in my house other than the MM reissues. G

+1 more. There is a risk that I might buy the remastered first album in order to get the concert tracks, but otherwise I doubt I'll investigate beyond the HOTH  which I found revealed nothing new. For me though I think it's just that I've tired of Led Zeppelin. In my youth I thought JiPP was  a great guitar player, but that was before I heard really great guitar players.

I have just bought the remaster. I found an improved sound quality in some of the earlier albums. Yes it's again 30 euros but then again for one of the more enjoyable albums in history. If JP was the greatest guitar player on earth, no probably not...., but the total band was awesome......

Also, i see on Amazon; 'Three From The Vaults' set is available on CD and Download, so i expect the vinyl won't be far behind to complete the trilogy.

Debs

Hi Debs -

Had to return/exchange "Two" through Amazon - one album had a large deep scratch - but the replacement was excellent.

Have you tried "Sunshine Daydream" (Veneta, Oregon, August 27, 1972)? Great board mix - very well pressed vinyl.  I get more sentimental about the late '70s when I saw so many concerts, but this could easily be my favorite live Dead album.

Didn't know you were a Deadhead or, with respect, perhaps that should that be Debshead?

ATB.

Hook

Hi Hook,

Yes i admit to being a deadhead, but tbh i only discovered who they were, and how good they were a mere couple of years ago, and this was because of their morbid band name that for quite a while i mistakenly assumed them as some kind of weird punk rock outfit. I now wonder how many other people out there have a potential head as equally dead but still awaiting the realisation, and exist oblivious to the fact that we have GD to enjoy and gravely dig while we live and unto that we should be grateful.

Seems like you were unlucky with your first Vaults Two set, i'm glad the replacement is okay, Amazon are very good when it comes to refunds and re-ordering, i also order mine from Amazon.

My first set of Sunshine vinyl [Rhino] went back for replacement due to too much surface noise, the replacement set are okay.

I find the Vaults vinyl pressed by Future Days Recordings to be superior to the Rhino.

Also, for a few days, i had a Dick's Picks Vol 4 pressed by Brookvale Records on 6xLP, which i sent back for refund due to warps, surface noise and extremely bad SQ. However the music is excellent and recommended on CD or download, the vinyl too expensive and tragically poor quality.

This is why i'm buying the Vaults sets, fab music and quality vinyl and sonic Q.

So far my entire GD collection includes:

Sunshine Daydream 4 x LP

One From The Vaults 3 x LP

Two From The Vaults 4 x LP

The Golden Road (1965-1973) 12 x CD set [hdcd] Rhino Box Set:

Spanning the Dead's Prolific and Pioneering Warner Bros. Era Over 15 1/2 Hours of Music, Including 7 Hours of Previously Unreleased Material All Digitally Remastered in HDCD an Maxed-Out With Live and Studio Bonus Tracks Plus Hidden Surprises! Featuring 9 Original Albums: 'THE GRATEFUL DEAD', 'ANTHEM OF THE SUN', 'AOXOMOXOA', 'LIVE/DEAD', 'WORKINGMAN'S DEAD', 'AMERICAN BEAUTY', 'GRATEFUL DEAD (SKULL & ROSES) ', EUROPE '72', 'HISTORY OF THE GRATEFUL DEAD, Vol.1 (BEAR'S CHOICE)' and BIRTH OF THE DEAD, a New 2-CD-Set Set of Rare Pre-Warner Tracks Plus a Massive 80-Page Book With the Band's History, Photos, and Full Discography, and 10 CD Booklets Packed With Rare Images, New Essays by Noted Deadologists.

The Golden Road box set is very expensive here in the UK,

but i got it for a good price

Debs

Hi Debs - welcome to the DeadHeads! I hope you realise that it's a slippery slope - a bit like the Naim path - but they both lead upwards! The Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion indeed.

If you want a Dead discussion it might be an idea to start a new thread. There are others on here - you can tell some from the avatars.

Just to add to what I said before on the post about Anthem of the Sun. There is an excellent live release that contains some of the key live portions used on Anthem. This is Road Trips Vol.2 No.2 Carousel 14 Feb 1968.

I would advise looking mostly for the Rhino/GD vinyl releases which are of excellent quality - and the official CDs are also produced with great care. Just to add another box,if you want vinyl, there's a collection of the first five studio albums - they're in your CD box but the LPs are all analogue supposedly - contains Grateful Dead; Anthem; Aoxomoxoa; Working Man's Dead; American Beauty. The Veneta set mentioned by Hook is a great concert too - similar in style to the Europe 72 in your box - and excellent vinyl.

Spiritualized   Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space    on cd

that would explain the nausea then

SONIC YOUTH SONIC NURSE   on cd

Interesting interplay between the guys...

I think the earlier albums are more significantly remastered ........while the drums sound a bit richer....

The best version of the Rover is for me coming from a Dreamtheater medley on change of seasons.....
