2 x LP - Sireena Records 2013 : )

Music on 3 sides of double vinyl...

really enjoying and getting into the spirit of this album by the end of side 3,

then i see the shiny blank surface of side 4, catches me out every time : (

Good album though,

well recorded with interesting classical interludes,

and fab SQ from the purple vinyl pressings : )

Debs

My only Genesis album. Pretty much Abacab is the only tune I like listening.

For some reasons I ended up with 2 other copies with different colours on the cover.

This UK pressing sounds the best. ( US pressings with a big smily EQ sound dreadful)

Revisiting Trio Wanderer's Triple Concerto.

Still this isn't the liveliest rendition around. Conlon's orchestration sounds lazy and benign.

Storioni Trio from Netherlands.

Much fresher and lively than pondering Wander-ing Trio or Karajan with *3 Russians*..

Less stuffy modern reading. Orchestra is dynamic and enveloping thanks to atmospheric surround sound recording. The balance of individual performer is close and intimate noone is getting lost in the mix. This is a well done SACD with excellent sounding 2 ch. Redbook layer which is rather rare. Liner noes make a point of both fiddles use gut strings. And the piano is also a Lagrasse 1915 forte piano.

Orchestra is fittingly lofty and ostentatiously thunderous against the Trio closes the exciting 1st movement. Taut sound of timpani keeps the score crisp. Largo starts off with not overly sweet pastel coloured violin. It isn't the most intimate rendering keeping a cool composure.

Fun rondo where everyone mingles together.

I still don't see why this score needs an orchestra, however.
