Oleg Sirenko ~ Atmospherics No Gravity (2013)

Oleg Sirenko died last year. He was part of a set of musicians and music lovers who formed the Tunguska Electronic Music Society (TEMS) in Russia. The society called itself Tunguska to bring world attention to the consequences of a catastrophic event such as a near earth impact as in Tunguska when a small (60metre) asteroid or meteorite fell to earth in Siberia in 1908 Flattening 2,000 km2 (770 sq mi) of forest, devastating the entire area. TEMS downloads are free/name your price at band camp or their own site here:

Again.

The disc was given to me by a friend pianist who thinks that it is an outstanding performance on the piano by Byron Janis whom I was not familiar with. The concertos were recorded live in 1962 at the Bolshoi Hall of Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow by Mercury's sound engineers.

Just browsing through the Gs in my record collection and came upon this. Thought I'd give it a spin.

I must have been because of the individual artists making up this super group that persuaded me to buy it. Listening to it now I can think of no other reason to have bought it. I think this might be its last ever play!

This UK pressing sounds the best. ( US pressings with a big smily EQ sound dreadful)

As you probably know their earlier albums are better, Kuma.  Trespass, Selling England by the Pound, Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme, Trick of the Tail, and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and all better than Abacab in my view.

After some restful Suzanne Vega I thought I needed something more lively to counteract the miserable rain outside.  Tango In The Night should do it. Mac's second-best album after Rumours in my view.

On CD. The first track is "It's Raining Today"...

I think I'd add 'Wind and Wuthering' to this list and most certainly the first live album called simply 'Genesis Live' - the version of Musical Box on that live album is superb (as are the live versions of Watcher of the Skies, Get 'em Out by Friday, The Return of the Giant Hogweed and The Knife - oh, wait a minute, that's the whole album!).

Now for something with some real oomph! A great recording of a live performance this one. Needs plenty of volume to properly appreciate it though

Had to play it now!

Yep, that's a good Genesis album too

Pah! That Genesis are absolute rubbish, unlistenable, irritating tosh. There's only one true Genesis - Mr P-Orridge and his merry band of Throbbers. Here's their masterpiece, from 1979:

Funny, Kevin. So who's the redhead in the new avatar then?

Christina Hendricks, AKA Joan Harris (née Holloway), in her new early 1970s guise.

In the deluxe box set of this one gets two CDs, vinyl and a DVD containing short films plus a 5.1 mix of the album, which I'm now listening to through the Canton DM50 soundbase in "surround" mode. Sounds pretty good...
