Not as fulfilling as the great recordings of the past (personally, I find Solti is still hard to beat despite the fact that it is one of Decca's issues most in need of a proper remastering job) but Rattle, Kaufmann and Kühmeier ensure it's a success nonetheless. Kozena is a matter of taste, I find her and Smoriginas as Escamillo lacking the required charisma. If I were this Don Jose, I'd go with Kühmeier and not look back.

Fancied some motorik funk, on vinyl. Playing this compilation takes me back to my university days...

Another peach from the mono vinyl box. The first side in particular is unbelievable - all the songs were potential number ones!

Tunguska Electronic Music Society ~ Phaeton Chronicles 2

Electronic music, mainly ambient and generally quite good for relaxing to, put together and released by this Russian music society. Their website (in Russian and English) is here for anyone that may be interested to find out more about the various music, videos or the radio station:

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division, first press, mastered by "Porky" Peckham. The kind of debut that comes along once in a generation. Stunning.

Steve Rothery ~ The Ghosts of Pripyat (2014)

Good to hear how this album came together. A year earlier at the Plovdiv Guitar Festival he played what he described as just embryonic ideas [for the festival] for over an hour. However those ideas were to form the bulk of this mainstream album.

Both the Plovdiv Live CD and Ghosts of Pripyat can be downloaded at Bandcamp. 'Pripyat can be had in 24/96 FLAC for just £6 (or more if you choose).
