The band. I reckon they (well Shreeve) and Radio Massacre International are the torch bearers for Berlin these days. Though keeping up with RMI is hard work (I'm over 50 albums but still don't have the lot!).

At over 50 albums by RMI that is some dedication Nick...when do they find time to sleep? If you haven't tried the ARC  ~ Church live album (above) give it a listen, I'm sure you will like it. I do know Redshift but haven't listened for quite a while I will have to rectify that.

I know, and like,  Arc but have a mere 5 of their albums. I have something of a thing for Berlin electronica, my RMI collection beaten by my Tangs set of 62, which is a minor collection compared to true devotees. A chum on a Villa forum has just acquired 300 Tangerine Tree CDs!

Sublime album. Every time I listen I figure you couldn't make a list of music content that pushes my buttons better than this!

Some early Pink Fairies from long ago. Unsophisticated rock but fun. Saw them live when I was teenager so have always had a soft spot for the band.

The Magnificent Thad Jones Blue Note 1527

"The musicianship being at such a lofty plateau, so intelligently selected and executed, this CD is a must-have for every collection, and is generally regarded as the very best work of Jones, later big-band recordings with Mel Lewis notwithstanding". AllMusic.com

Comparing a rip of the RVG 2007 remaster CD and the same album on Spotify Premium. The album recording and remastering is very good and the difference in SQ is surprising small. Spotify's 320kbps Ogg Vorbis format must be doing something right.

Saw them, along with an electric version of Third Ear Band, supporting MC5 in 72. The Fairies were awesome but overshot their slot.

When MC5 took the stage it was just the four of them, Michael Davis having done a bunk mid-tour, with Fred Smith on bass. Shortly into their set the Fairies bassist came on and helped them out. They started to really cook then...but sadly the Fairies had overshot by so much thst Westminster Council pulled the power on them

Fortunately we saw a full set by the MC5 at Kings Cross and Barbarella's in Brum, the latter being one of my top two concerts ever. Almost literally mind melting.

Anyone own this and is it worth the 60 quid the river is asking for?

Indeed! That gig (Seymour Hall) they used the side wall to show highly explicit porn movies during the show, and at the Kings Cross gig the support act featured an extremely elastic stripper. On both occasions I was accompanied by the future wife so I was determinedly uninterested

Do you mean musically or this pressing? It seems to be continuously reissued and I imagine it's a digital source now. Musically, it's essential if you like blues/rock with jazzy elements and two brilliant lead guitarists!

I mean sonically, Clive. I know it's one of the greatest albums ever but if the pressing is really bad it's not worth the investment. Besides, I rarely buy reissues unless it is really worth it.

Spent the evening listening to stuff on Bandcamp and adding to my wishlist. Loads of good stuff which will no doubt get a mention on here at some point.

Apologies for stating the obvious, Tony - on the basis of what you post on this thread I was fairly certain you would know the music. I bought a Back to Black vinyl version a while ago and it wasn't particularly good although the pressing was quiet. My original version isn't in a great state unfortunately, but I think when I compared it still was better than the B2B. I imagine this is likely to be the same source as the B2B. I'm not sure where you stand otherwise on sources but the money might be better spent on the CD super deluxe set that came out about a year ago which has more music on it.

Wand/NDR Beethoven Symphony No.2: 1988

Big and spacious yet excellent micro details and dynamics that keep my interest going. This set possesses the elegance of Böhm but drama and story telling of Toscanini. He does not have a strong flavour but Scherzo has a sufficient attitude and light sense of humour. Weighty intro on the 4th followedy by a humourous fine lined strings accents mingling with the rest. Some riffs remind me of Mozart late symphonies but just for a split second.

Al Jarreau: Glow 1976 Release.

Heavy R&B and scat.

THis is what I call 'bookend' album where very first and last tunes are great but middle is so so.

Saving grace is Joe Correro and Ralph McDonald's steady but groovy rhythm section. Here's his Leon Russel's 'Rainbow In Your Eyes' cover.
