Pablo Casals ~ J.S. Bach's Cello Suites [1-6]

Variously recorded in Paris and London between the late '20s and early '30s, these original 78s were carefully transcribed in 1999 to very good effect.

"Fine transfers of these landmark recordings of the Cello Suites. There have been many great interpretations of these pieces since, but for all their virtues, none can ever quite live up to the beauty of Casals' reading."

Strange Flowers - Ortoflorovivaistica

From 2006. Italian neo-psych band with melodies somewhere between Syd Barrett and the more melodic Velvets. Ish. They have a couple of lead guitarists who let fly at each other on the longer tracks such as The Ghost In Your Room:

Nice ''soft'' discovery. I suppose if you like Damien Rice chances are you'll like this.

Favorite tracks: 2, 8, 9, 11

Do you mean musically or this pressing? It seems to be continuously reissued and I imagine it's a digital source now. Musically, it's essential if you like blues/rock with jazzy elements and two brilliant lead guitarists!

I mean sonically, Clive. I know it's one of the greatest albums ever but if the pressing is really bad it's not worth the investment. Besides, I rarely buy reissues unless it is really worth it.

Apologies for stating the obvious, Tony - on the basis of what you post on this thread I was fairly certain you would know the music. I bought a Back to Black vinyl version a while ago and it wasn't particularly good although the pressing was quiet. My original version isn't in a great state unfortunately, but I think when I compared it still was better than the B2B. I imagine this is likely to be the same source as the B2B. I'm not sure where you stand otherwise on sources but the money might be better spent on the CD super deluxe set that came out about a year ago which has more music on it.

Clive

Thanks Clive. The B2B series seems to devide opinion quite a bit and I appreciate yours since I have not listened to any of it. I would rather invest on the 4 vinyl set if the quality was any good than the CDs although it is tempting. Once again, many thanks.
Tony

Music from a significant occasion. Zoot Sims was the first of the American class acts to appear at Ronnie Scott's. This cd captures the music played over the 2 nights in Autumn 1961. Fontana Records were present and produced 2 lps of the event: Zoot Sims Live at Ronnie Scott's and Solo for Zoot, both highly sought after and reflected in the asking price! This cd is a good compromise.
