Original vinyl sounding great courtesy of Oxfam and Loricraft.
Carbon Based Lifeforms - Interloper
Swedish downtempo electronica - psybient I believe the term is. This is from their back catalogue and was originally on Ultimae but is now available from the band's own Bandcamp site for the princely sum of 56 of your Swedish krona (about £4.36) for which you get a 24bit FLAC.
This is the somewhat bouncy opener:
And this is one of the shimmery tracks:
Vertigo Swirl vinyl.
An excellent album. Indeed a classic
17 again! A time when album covers meant almost as much as the insides, and this was quite special in both regards.
I agree Gary. I remember putting the stylus on this record when it first came out. Wow. It was so different to music that was available at the time. This is my second copy. Love it.
It's quite good - but I need a 2nd run through to fully appreciate it. The EPIC is a bit different from his normal epic's....., not this massive build up..., but just different parts...

With the resurgence in vinyl sales, hopefully album art will once again enjoy the creative excellence of those times. Maybe we should start a thread of favourite album covers?
Great album all fashioned but swinging like hell
I agree Gary. I remember putting the stylus on this record when it first came out. Wow. It was so different to music that was available at the time. This is my second copy. Love it.
I didn't own a copy back then. Being impoverished our little group of friends had a strict ownership system: each person bought LPs by a certain group/artist only. So I was (amongst others) the person who bought, for example, Neil Young, Jethro Tull, Stooges et al. That way we maximised listening breadth and eradicated duplication.
I wasn't the designated Sabbath collector, but was deeply jealous of the friend who was. Over time I lost touch with my inner Ozzie. Fairly recently I bought the remastered CDs and found I still loved the first and second albums both on a genuine musical level and on a time-machine-to-my-youth basis, with diminishing returns up to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
I remember reading somewhere that smells are a sovereign route back into long-past memories, but albums covers can do the same, though even more so the music itself, which can trigger sights and smells (put the first Quicksilver Messenger Service album on and I can smell a particularly fat pink joss-stick from a head shop in Hurst Street, Brum)

Ahmad Jamal is a terrific player. I was fortunate to see him at the 1992 Mount Hood Jazz Festival. If you don't mind a couple suggestions I have enjoyed:
on the left: Ahmad Jamal "Digital Works" wonderful selection of songs, one of the first ever cd I purchased back in the mid-80s so a slight digital edge or hardness to the crystal clear recording but excellent playing and a great listen.,
on the right: Ahmad Jamal "Rossiter Road" from about 1990, to me has a slightly "smooth jazz" tone to it but the selection I go back to most often if I feel like listening to AJ.

Oh, yes, Gary. Recognise much of this. And joss-sticks! On the rare occasions I catch whiff these days my mind is immediately transported back to my teenage years listening to LZ, Tull, Sabbath, Yes, Groundhogs, Uriah Heap etc etc in the semi-dark with one or two joss-sticks smoking away (the sticks, not me). Seem to remember scouting around for coloured, low-power light bulbs just to add to the atmosphere.

"Almost Spring" (2014) MP3
I only played this glorious LP of mono singles and B-sides yesterday, but enjoyed it so much I'm going to revisit it again:
Yeah you inspired me, giving it a spin... A great compilation
Richard
p.s. Tin Soldier must be one of the greatest tracks of all time..... For me at least... It just blasts me back to way back when!
Genesis 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' on vinyl
Brilliant album, brilliant sleeve. Not a josstick in sight, but the memories are intense.
Spectacular!
I remember hearing this many years ago. I didn't get it then, but was just surfing around and stumbled upon it. I can empathise with one of the comments on YouTube, which says, "[Oh I do], do not listen to this unless you want to be a bit f**ked up for the rest of your life".
Just ordered it!
Can someone advise me about posting an image, please? (Not sure where best to post this!) As far as I can see I am following the instructions in the FAQs but I am only getting a blue ? in a small box. I tried recently with sharing an image from Wikipedia and now I have an image uploaded onto Flickr. I have tried the url from the top of the Flickr page, and the three possible sharing modes from Flickr: embed, HTML and BBCode. I am using the Insert/edit image tool at the top of this reply box. It's very frustrating because I have posted images in the past. I am using an up-to-date version of Safari.
Thanks
Clive
Another Russian pianist Lazar Berman seems to be rarely talked these days but this is an excellent Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3 done live in 1976 with Abbado/London Symphony.
Berman’s piano is crystal clear but has a nice intimate self dialog like feel which balances well with bravura passages avoiding to become just a shallow showcase piece. ( which most of Rachmaninoff piano pieces tend to end up being ) Berman's technical skill is impressive. He has a Richter like precision and coolness and Horowitz' showmanship. Abbado’s direction creates ebb and flow effect moving at all times never stay static. Presentation is beautiful digging out more textures and colours out of the score rather than becoming a mere backdrop to the soloist.
On MONO vinyl
