Not out until mid April I think.
I'm pretty sure I heard the booty of this album quite a few years ago. The studio release was a great album and the properly mastered live concert should be a must for true blues lovers. Looking forward to it.
Canned Heat were a great band live. I saw them in Torquay not long after Al Wilson died, unfortunately never got to see John Lee Hooker.
The Phantom Band
"Strange Friend" (2014) SP
I'm sure they were brilliant live Steve, but have to content myself watching Live in Montreux.

I have the DVD of the Montreux concert. Henry Vestine was right off his head. They were great in Torquay two years earlier in 1971. Here's a poster flyer from the time.
Look at the ticket prices! I used to go to all of these concerts. Rory Gallagher was excellent a la Live In Europe.
Happy friday enjoy!

Air ~ Pocket Symphony (2006)
Just to get the listening gently underway.
If you like Robert Johnson and want to get just one recording of his then the above cd is THE best for SQ.
Thanks for the heads up!
They must have done a serious clean up job.
2011 Remastered release, right?
Maybe check out this ? Don't know if it's better but it contains Robert Johnson's original recordings in fine sound, together with Peter Green and Splinters versions, in a 3 CD box.
WW,
In my mind, those Johnson's 30 odd tunes pretty much sum up what the blues is all about.
Most *cover* versions I have heard just sound so artificial and trite missing the soul. ( perhaps they haven't sold theirs to the Devil )
I was listening to Clapton covers. Good God, it's tedious.

Yep the 2011 release and they did a serious job on it. Highly recommended.

The later CDs and vinyl clearly use the same source as they have an identical character - the background noise is cleaned up but Johnson's playing and singing sounds artificial. The Centennial collection has cleaned up the sound but remains natural - now I have to buy it!
NIce!
Looks like the one to have. There is a new reissue from MOV and it's digitally sourced and remastered but wondering how it is. I found MOV reissues sound pretty decent but all the titles I own from them are digitally recorded.
Whilst I am on the subject, here is an excellent biography of Robert Johnson.

Royal Blood ~ Royal Blood (23 August 2014)
I have heard so many good reports of this, so here goes...with headphones.
Also a more bass orients album, but good...

Kuma, yes I'm with you here. The covers by Peter Green are interesting..... a bit. But, I wanted to bring attention to the Robert Johnson originals here that sound pretty darn good. But as I said, I don't know how they 'stack up' against the 2011 remastered versions hailed by others here.
I wonder if anyone has both and can enlighten us
