Groovy Grace Jones' 'Living my Life'. '82 release.

I can already hear some similarity to her next album 'Slave to the Rhythm'.

21 year old Kissin with Ozawa/BSO recorded live.

This set feels awfully genteel and too well behaved. Both the orchestra and pianist are both walking so gingerly feeling cagey especially after hearing Rachmaninoff or Horowitz where they take it to the limit.

Lush and beautiful but this is a distant, low energy, low impact paring where I would have liked to see more fire in the belly.

A great live record with top notch sound quality.

A vintage recording of Rachmaninoff playing his own Piano Concerto No.1 with Ormandy in 1939.

No.1 isn't popular as his other 3 concertos but I am rather digging this unfamiliar tune.

Ormandy's orchestration now sounds very dated like Max Steiner-ish. Rachmaninoff enters with a crisp and firm style, usual frenzy is kept to minimum in the 1st movement yet he pulls off plenty of excitement and drama along with inner torment underneath.

Oddly I hear some similarity to Horowitz style where he almost lets it go but pulls back in a nick of time. I guess both pianists have confidence in their playing that they can push the boundary. The ascending chromatic scale in top of Andate reminds me of Tristan leitmotif. Gorgeous rich harmony from yester-years.

Late night special in the vein of Webster and Hawkins.

Sensual opening track 'Blue and Sentimental' is quite intimate.

But what's nice is there are a few groovy up tempo tunes keeping the album nicely balanced.

Clean and snappy Paul Chambers bass line emerges from a pitch black background keeping the tune crisp.

Ike on the left, Grant on the right. ( but they switch on some track )

Tasteful Philly Jones on drums.

Quebec never had his own *sound* but this is very nicely done. I love the ending riff of Grant Green on the 'Count Every Star'.

In the last days I have become more familiar to his work. I before only had his Scarlatti Cd. I should have known this work much before. Across the board I like what I hear. Great storytelling...

Superb sound quality to go with the superb music. Apparently David Gilmour used Syd Barret's guitar on one or two of the songs. It must have been just about the last time that the Richard Wright ever performed live as he died in the September of 2008 . Superb CD and DVD.

+1 great album,  I listen to the CD rip very regularly, but the DVD sound & watching the various bits of genius is even more rewarding.

The concert - the last in Gilmour's "On An Island" tour - was recorded in 2006  (not 2008, that was the album release date)

Richard Wrights last live gig was in Sept 2007 with Gilmour at Londons Odeon Leicester Square.

The Live in Gdansk album was released about 2 week before he died.

Thanks for that information Mike.

Tangerine Dream ~ Cyclone (1978)

I have been listening to a lot of modern (good) Berlin School electronica of late but this morning go back to one of the originals.

The sun is shining and spring is finally here. Seems appropriate to listen to some jazz with piano.

And "Belonging" is such a nice album!
