Via Spotify - while interesting music, difficult to get my head around it if I totally like it or if it's just fine as background music.

Appliance ~ Six Modular Pieces (2000)
Talk of this yesterday inspired me to give it a spin today.
"Six Modular Pieces is exactly what it advertises - circular electronic atmospherics reminiscent of Fripp/Eno's No Pussyfooting, early Can, Sonic Youth in its more pastoral moments. Four of six tracks are instrumental; all are lyrical, evocative. "20 Minutes from the East" is a headlong rush towards arrival; "Derailleur, King of the Mountain" a leisurely canyon hike near a mountain stream; "Slow Roller" a steady, cruising steamroller."

Appliance ~ Imperial Metric (2001)
Their penultimate album providing more excellent music from this band.
"Very few albums have impressed me as quickly and completely as Imperial Metric, the first Appliance work I ever heard and still my favoruite. Hauntingly beautiful soundscapes with lusciously etherial intelligence- perfect for watching the cosmos or divining the mysteries of life. This work's sonic expanse will take you there."

Appliance ~ Are You Earthed? 2002
Sadly, their final album.
"The meeting of warm organic sounds and a love of DIY electronics on Are You Earthed?, Appliance's fourth album and their most cohesive work yet, suggests the Exeter trio is hardly production-line. Previous outings Imperial Metric and Six Modular Pieces were heavy on electronic instrumentals, but singer James Brooks rediscovers his voice and delivers the sci-fi lullabies that govern the album in a soothing Lou Reed-meets-Tim Burgess drawl. Likewise, live guitars, drums and bass take to the forefront once again and are electronically enhanced rather than overwhelmed: the title track is Spacemen 3 paranoia with a dirty funk bassline, while the mesmerising segue of electronic raindrops, robotic cricket chirps and warm piano drone on "violins" caps off one of Appliance's most intriguing and beautifully accomplished pieces to date." --Leslie Gilotti

Another first spin of a song recital. Christian Gerhaher has a high baritone, very evenly produced. He lends these mostly moody songs a sad, sweet quality - not for every moment of the day, but brilliant right now.
