Zero 7 ~ The Garden (2006)

Just to make for some very pleasant easy listening.

"From backroom bods to the Hollywood Bowl, from tiny specialist shops to a million-selling album, from using more singers than a Broadway musical and trucking on regardless, Zero 7’s story has always been about thinking that little big bigger." - From Their Biography

My first introduction to Ry Cooder about 30 years ago. A superb artist never afraid to change direction and still retain his identity.

FLAC stream.

Something gentle for the close of the evening.  Nice thing about Joni's music is it retains it's vibrancy even at lowish volumes.

Does it say anywhere on the box who mastered these?

Ewemon, it was one of the first things I looked for whilst reading the 20 page booklet and ripping the set. Strangely it does not say who remastered them. Just the claim on the back of the box that they were [remastered] in 24-Bit. Could Masterworks have just put together a collection of the best sounding CDs?

Think I will buy a copy and compare it against the UK Capitol box set I have.

Ewe', 7 of the 9 CDs are Capitol and 2 CDs (4 albums) "Come Swing With Me", "Swing Along With Me", "Ring-a-Ding Ding!", and "I Remember Tommy..." are all on Reprise. There are an additional 46 Tracks spread around but its not possible to say which label they are on (with this collection).

I don't know if you can glean anything more from their website.

What the hell? Not really a Sinatra fan but at £1 per CD for some classic and well-reproduced music you can't go wrong really, can you?.  Set ordered.

Enjoying this album, on loan from a friend

Steely Dan. Pretzel Logic. An original pressing from 1974. Not much time for listening lately. This selection is equally rewarding for its music and sonic qualities.

A stonewall classic.

John Cougar Mellencamp. The Lonesome Jubilee. On vinyl from 1987. I posted a topic recently in the Music Room on DDM vinyl. Not much interest there, but this is one of those early DMMs that tends to sound a bit harsh. Taken individually the attributes are all nice; great clarity and resolution, fast and tight with a very well controlled bottom end, good overall tonal balance, and no pre-echo. But missing is the typical warmth of vinyl and it comes off sounding more like digital to me.

Hi Kevin.

A nice album. Have a listen to Fain though which I think is my favourite of theirs.

Russell

Will definitely check it out Russell, as I am enjoying Steeple a lot.

Some late night 2112 by Rush. Made the mistake of playing one track of it and now will have to listen to the full album. Still wonderful after all these years. 24 bit flac streamed via Hugo

Fleetwood Mac. Mystery To Me. On Reprise vinyl from 1973. Some good sounding music, but I always come away thinking it's more fluff than substance.

The Beatles. Yesterday And Today (1966). On Apple label vinyl I bought in September 1975 and played several hundreds of times the first ten years, it now rarely gets a play approaching 40 years in my collection. But it's a treat as the vinyl still has a lovely luster and the sound is open, vibrant and real.

The Beatles' Second Album (1964). On Capitol orange label vinyl I bought in December 1977. Another sonic treat I haven't heard in a while.
