Noticed one or others playing this over the weekend and I thought it's been a while since I gave it a spin. Goodness me, I'd forgotten what good quality music and especially reproduction this is!

Vinyl. Always worth the occasional listen.

Impulse! IMP 11762

You'll have occasional sparkles of distorion here and there.

No need of shcm stuff here for a great analogue rec on cd. Imho.

On vinyl.

Two male singers harmonize perfectly and play acoustic guitars, delivering one beautiful folk song after another...

The etudes from Pietro di Maria's Chopin set. In terms of interpretation, it's pretty clear that Di Maria doesn't go for the grand, sweeping gestures here. There is an unusual reticence to, for example, the Op.25  F minor, and the B minor from the same set is a bit bland despite its well done climax. Certain etudes blend into each other with a liquid smoothness. But there is compensation in, to stay with Op.25, the gorgeous C sharp minor etude, which I seldom heard with such heart-rending fragility. The big etudes are all done well.

Just noticed Doug's lukewarm reception higher up in this thread - regarding his comment on the sound, I can just add that on my - forgiving - system, this is a quite realistic, closely recorded but not overly detailed, representation of a well-tuned Hamburg Steinway.

Cheers,

EJ

Vinyl.

Michael Gielen/ Symphony Orchestra of the Southwest German Radio

Trying to get a handle on the 7th. Outer movements are rather hectic and disjointed. There are just so much things going on and keep changing moment to moment I don't even know what he is getting at.

They are epitome of ungapatchka!

Beastie Boys- Paul's Boutique on vinyl. One of their best.

New British Blues band whose album is due out 26th May. The vocalist Russell Keefe has a voice in a similar vein to Joe Cocker. Well worth a listen.

A bit less spacious, airy than the best bootlegs of this series. But still a lot of fun to listen to this concerts..

Love it just the thing for my last day of recovering before going back to work tomorrow. Melancholic, melodic just love the interplay between the trumpet and violin
