Ben E. King: I Had a Love 1976 Release.

Smoother and sloewer more ballad oriented album.

Touch of disco influence like many of pop/R&B from the same era.

Heard so much about Kindertotenlieder but this is a first time listen with Fischer-Diaskau and Karl Böhm/Berliner.

Kindertotenlieder is hard to take indeed.

These 5 tunes depict a grief process quite vividly from sorrow, despair, anger to finally acceptance and justification.

B side contains 4 more Rückert tunes which are less depressing. The last tune 'I am lost in the world' reminds me of a Adagietto from the 5th.  This is a beautiful slow moving tune in rich golden hue.

One of my favourite Beethoven sonatas are not often the famous ones.
Here I am just listening to Horowitz's rendition of No. 7 Sonata recorded back in 1959 in glorious Living Stereo.

Horowitz has this ‘take it or leave it’ attitude.  Showmanship Horowitz is ever so present.

The longish Largo drags a bit and feels over laboured. It feels that all that theatrical decorations are getting away of digging the tune deeper.

Excellent album. I enjoy my CD version. If you haven't already got it, Joerand, try SV's Close Up series which contains a number of songs from Solitude Standing and her other albums but in a different style. Fabulous.

By coincidence I was listening to this one tonight. And I seriously endorse the Close Up series (of which I have all four!).

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into the Close Up series.

If you got it on vinyl for £3 it is an unbelievable bargain!

It was a CD, Kevin.  Funny how CD used to be more expensive tha  vinyl - in the Eighties they used to cost about £15 each - and are now much cheaper.  I suspect there is more to this than production costs.

I really enjoyed the entirety of their Beethoven symphonies and wanted to hear de Vriend and the NSO's recordings of Mendelssohn, completed last year, once again on Hyrbrid SACD.

LEAH - Of Earth and Angels

LEAH - Of Earth and Angels. Canadian metal with a Celtic twist. Great riffs and she's got a great voice.

Followed by ...

Robert Reed - Willow's Song

Robert Reed - Willow's Song. Willow's Song apart this sounds very Mike Oldfield. She has a really great voice though and Willow's Song is stunning.

The latert record by Rudresh Mahanthappa. Great saxophoneplayer. This new record, released on cd and vinyl, by the ACT Company,  is really great. If you're into jazz and you like Coltrane on Impulse!, Shepp, O.Coleman etc you'like this one. It's more melodic than his previous records in my opinion . The sound quality of the vinyl version is excellent. ("exclusively made from the 24bit/96kHz master files" ) There's a download code (flac), did'nt listen to it yet.
