Sublime, beautiful playing by Pinchas Zukerman on his debut album.
Some very fine cello playing, most enjoyable.
Carole King. Rhymes & Reasons. German pressing on Ode Records vinyl from 1972. Inspired by Kuma's recent post. Great recording/pressing.
Joseph Haydn | Johann Nepomuk Hummel: Trio Chausson
Joseph Haydn:
Piano Trio in G minor Hob. XV:1
Piano Trio in E minor Hob. XV:12
Piano Trio in C major Hob. XV:27
Johann Nepomuk Hummel:
Piano Trio in F major op. 22
Another fine recording by an ensemble I like very much - Trio Chausson. The C major trio of Haydn is the highlight of the disc. It is late Haydn and the difference in style and complexity is apparent with about 30 plus years separating the C major trio from the G minor trio. I have played the C major trio so maybe this is why it sticks out for me and brings back many good memories.
Joe,
Rhymes & Reasons by far is one of my top 3 Carole King album!
Especially 'Bitter with the Sweet' and 'Stand Behind Me'.
I have a half dozens of the album searched in vain to find the clean US 1st pressing.
Giving another try.
Still don't get on with Gordon's horn playing but I like Pierre Michelot's bass on it.
One of my all times favs. Great recoding, the acoustic of Trinity Church is very good, was simply mic'ed and if you listen closely you can sometimes hear the low frequency rumble of the subway passing underground nearby.
Just had to put the LP on for a spin.
Jethro Tull. Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die! On vinyl from 1976. Been a while since I spun this one.

My first ever concert was on this album's tour: Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower, and JT at Shea Stadium in NY in 1975.
This album is really making me glad about my system tonight...it's like my speakers have disappeared.

I shall add this to my playlist tomorrow (today actually, can't sleep!). The last time I played this it seemed surprisingly dated, but I'll give it another spin and see if I can still remember how to play it.
My 3rd favourite Carole King album: Music 1971 Release.
Stylistically it's like 'Tapestry' ( as the cover photo feels similar ) but not so overplayed and I found fresh when I first heard it. Plus it contains my favourite Carpenter's 'It's gonna take some time'. and Isley Brothers' 'Brother, Brother'.
I have multiple copies of this album but this particular one was the gift from a friend who bought this album when it first came out. She written down her then last name 'Parcher' on the cover. ( that's how I found out she has married twice! )
King employs practically the same back up musicians as Tapestry. Addictive rhythmic conga intro on 'Brother, Brother' sound so natural and immediate I have yet to hear this duplicated on a CD replay. ( nor MOFI reissue doesn't have it either! )

Personally I love Dexter.
Prompted by Kumas post.
Personally I love Dexter.
He has many fans.
Many other reissues vinyl of his past work prove his popularity.
I personally prefer Parker or Young sort of playing.
Gordon's style is too cabaret like and not as lyrical as Bird or linear as Young to my ears.
Here's Parker and Young together.
Wish there was a kick arse reissue but so far no good recording survived on Parker which is a shame.

I see your 'round midnight' and raise you 'Bird'.

Frank Sinatra ~ Come Swing With Me (1961)
More Frank after last night's ninety minute documentary on BBC 4 HD. From the Masterworks box.
A few trax off her up and coming album.
Can you say when this is due?
