Tangerine Dream ~ Phaedra (1974)
Apropos of nothing in particular, its quite noticeable how short many of the albums were back in the day. This one for example only plays for about 37 minutes.
Stevee - very true. I was listening to Nashville Skyline the other day; it was only 28 minutes long!
But I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. Many albums today are too long - the time constraints imposed by vinyl (20 or so minutes per side) were a useful discipline). All The Beatles' records up to The White Album are under 40 minutes. A Hard Day's Night clocks in at 30 minutes. Do any of these records need to be any longer? Probably not.
I agree Kevin. I think it struck me after having downloaded a lot of new Berlin School style music over the past few months. It seems that most of these (modern) downloads are running at 60 minutes plus. Although I have been really pleased with discovering alot of good new bands there are one or two in there where less would have been more, as you suggest a discipline of single albums topping out at 45 minutes is about right...
Kompendium - Beneath the Waves. An exceptional album which I downloaded from Bandcamp yesterday. It features a who's who of prog musicians and is very very good. Give it a listen,
Thanks Russell I have that in my wishlist for the next time I make a few downloads. I see you have been very busy over there!

Hi Steve. I have. I spent most of my time yesterday writing some reviews and listening to the music to help with that. I'm quite getting into the Bandcamp experience I've found a lot of good stuff. As well as the Kompendium album, 'Ruby The Hatchet' really stand out for me at the moment.

I have been reading a number of your reviews over there. Thoughtful and well written, highlighting the merits of different albums and musical styles within. Thanks for taking the time to do that, it makes short listing albums so much easier for the rest of us.

Soen ~ Tellurian (2014)
US/Swedish progressive metal supergroup featuring members of Opeth, Testament & Willowtree. One of the better releases last year, well crafted and recorded. Well worth a listen.
After listening to A Farewell To Kings, it struck me that, for all their lyrical pretentions and general absurdity, Rush are a bloomin' good band. Here's their first (and best IMO) live album, on 1970s UK vinyl...

Great album, great band Kev
Classy woman. Great songsmith and all 'reference' recording standard.
FLAC - Qobuz or NAS - Can't tell the difference now!

2013 'Collectors Edition' FLAC via Deezer Elite. Not quite up to the later 'Thick as...' but still excellent in parts.
Better mastering than the 2001 version by a long way!

Thanks Steve. If I can hook someone up with something they'll enjoy I'll be happy
First time I have listened to Bruce in months, maybe years. Nice collection.

Genesis ~ A Trick of the Tail (1976)
Just the job to come back to on this lovely sunny spring evening.

An amazing recording now available also in DSD. Great GraemeH!
Arrau's recording of the nocturnes - every time I listen to this, I have this feeling that there is no need for any other music.

Some Hendrix to start the evening's listening. Having neglected this album for many years a purchase of a CD version has re-kindled my affection for it.

Dusty Springfield ~ The Very Best of Dusty Springfield (2011)
SWIMBO and A.N.Other have requested this. No objections from me so on she goes...
And now for something with some real oomph......I can certainly recommend this to those who like a bit of hard-core rock.
Much more mellow...
