Harry Nilsson ~ The Real Harry Nilsson (2014)

CD 2 of 3 from this newly acquired box set. Set out chronologically these albums have been mastered from the original RCA Victor recordings and are sounding fine. It seems almost ridiculous to have bought these 3 CDs new for £2.42.

Some lovely cuban sounds to go with this beautiful afternoon's weather.

Apparently there is a 24/96 remaster of this around, I would like to hear that.

24/96 WAV stream from HDTracks.

sounds really good. I cannot compare to CD but it is a very clear/vibrant sound.

Unfortunately I cannot say as it is part of an agreement I have with a friend that I don't comment before the albums are they are released.

However in a troll through the net today I saw it was also up for a listen on the NPR first listen site so I would pop over there so you can make you own mind up.

Is your friend a reviewer? Anyhow thanks for the tip - I have located it on NPR and will have a quick listen later, although I do also want the pleasure of fresh listening when my vinyl copy arrives.

My friend and I used to work together in the music biz many moons ago. He was instrumental in discovering a lot of well known artists when he was an A&R man at various labels.

How is he solo? I like him partnered with Gillian Welch.

i returned again to this one. I very much like his style of playing and have quite a collection of his recordings, all of course of differing quality.

Hi G!

Some of the songs here are with Gillian Welch and they appear together in rear and inner sleeve. I think he is genuine (i'm italian).

A honest record in my thoughts.

Steve, here is a short interview on channel 4 a couple of days ago. Fascinating how they  are still enjoying their music and performing after all these years.

It took me a long time to get around to buying this album I should have done it a long time ago.

Prompted me to dig this one out and give it a spin. Superb album.

In their last formation, and playing on a family of four Stradivarii, the Tokyo String Quartet realised one of he most instantly recogniseable sound of any string quartet to date. All their albums for HM are worth having, but their wooden, autumnal sound is particularly well suited to Schubert's D 956. A sensitive performance, which foregoes on the drama of the ABQ and the Arcanto in favour of a sad, plangent quality.
