Great album before going to sleep, jazz with a lot of gentle melody....

PIcking up from yesterday, still on Ramsey Lewis streak.

Back to the Roots: 1971 Release.

At this point the drummer is replaced with Morris Jennings and bassist is Cleveland Eaton

Hipper and swankier from earlier gritzy blue influenced efforts.

Altho, I am surprised that this album aged relatively well in spite there are Beatles and Carpenters covers.

Ramsey Lewis: Les Fleurs 1983 Release.

Clearly it now has that 80s sound and even more polished but Lewis still plugging in.  A funky Chopin's E Minor prelude.

The Beatles. The Beatles (1968). From the MFSL Collection 1982. Revisiting one of the most-played LPs of my youth, I'm comparing the MFSL to my Capitol orange and purple label pressings. Fun fodder for a Friday night.

This should appeal to Gary Shaw who likes a bit of 'Tron'

I'll be ordering the vinyl from Burning Shed.

It's true! Pre-ordered the CD last week, and can't wait.

No chance to check it out yet, is it only on CD or can we download?

Steve,

Download now from Bandcamp, CD & Vinyl orders from Burning Shed.

Thanks Denis I'll head over there now.

Asura ~ Radio Universe (2014)

"Radio Universe connects me back to my first musical delights in the 70's when I was a kid listening to Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jarre on my mono tape player. Asura manages the tour-de-force to evoke this era while being firmly grounded in the present time."

She hasn't always delivered the best quality. But in this album I like what she is doing, with so many others also delivering a stunning performance ..... This is definitely a quite decent performance

Robert Reed - Sanctuary

Robert Reed - Sanctuary

I'm repeating the comments below from my Bandcamp collection.

I saw a documentary on iPlayer the other night on Jeff Lynne in which Paul McCartney said something like 'musicians borrow things from artists they admire'. Robert Reed seems to have taken that to the extreme with this album. This is the fourth of Mike Oldfield's first three albums.

I like the album and the composition and muscianship is exceptional it's just very, very derivative.

If you would like to listen to a Mike Oldfield album which he never produced this is it. 'Oma-Hergest-Bells'?

Schumann's three violin sonatas a quirky but fascinating late works.

Last night's most interesting (unusual?) listening.  Described as a Folk Opera, it has some wonderful songs; try 'Wait for me' (with Bon Hiver), or 'Wedding song'.

ENGTANZ DEPRESSION by SANKT OTTEN

There are 9 tracks on the album, but only 4 to hear on Bandcamp.

The pulses, rhythms & colour created on this release make this the easiest access into SO I think. I like it very much.

As winky says, Personal Mountains is a great album and quite "accessible" by KJ's standards. These two are also favourites of mine:
