Inna Zhelannaya - Cocoon

Inna Zhelannaya, the first world music star of Russia, is known for combining old, Russian folksongs with modern music productions. Some pieces, as old as 1000 years and coming from even the pre-Christian era, are found throughout her records re-worked with electronica, trance and progressive rock.

Just ordered the CD, but available to download from the 7dmedia Bandcamp page.

First spin of the new recording of Simon Boccanegra from Lithuania. Whatever its merits - I'll report my view after having lived with it for a while - this is, finally, a true studio recording of an opera, which is an endeavor I am happy to financially support. And hearing Dmitri Hvorostovsky in a big Verdi role remains a treat to the ears.

Shpongle - Live In London

DVD of the (very) full band at the Troxy, just released. Tremendous music, great theatrics, it would have been a total blast to have been there. Old Quintessence fans would also appreciate the sight of Raja Ram still giving it everything.

What lies Beneith studio album by Tarja Turunen.

And also the live concert album 'Act 1' of her first two solo albums and some extras:

Very well recorded heavy operatic rock.

Tarja has incredible stage presence - I've also seen her live a few times and it is a quality sound set-up, similar to the albums.

I've been impressed that since she was ejected from Nightwish they continued to add more and more compression to their later albums, whilst Tarja took a refreshing direction and went for none at all and high quality instead.

Johann Sebastian Bach:  Zhu Xiao-Mei (Klavier)

Die Kunst der Fuge on vinyl

German music recorded at the Mendelssohn-Saal, Gewandhaus zu Leipzig in Germany.  And for those who fail to disconnect music and politics then they should certainly not be hypocrites and listen to Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Haydn, Brahms, Schumann, Schubert, Wagner .....  Take a stand with your political views and stick to something pure and safe, like.... British music.

You really would have to explain which bit of British music is less political than the music of Richards Wagner and Strauss!

Listenig to River man, from the above album, to compare with Nick Drake's version, of the same title.

I'm fast becoming a big fan of Lee Ritenour. At first, I thought he sounded a little cheesy, and the tunes started to make me laugh. Then, the rhythm, bass slam, and the guys he plays with, hit me right between the eyes.

He's a top rank guitar player, no doubt. Someome involved, has a keen interest in recording quality. Most of his work, is top notch, test your Naim gear material. If your system isn't kicking, you won't fully appreciate Lee's recordings.
