Their best I reckon.

Agreed, I chose "Rocket From A Bottle" as my wedding song to my Wife, then everyone popped baloons
Nice!

From my local Oxfam at £2.99 on vinyl, this morning:
So good, I've just turned it back to side 1 to play all over again. Some of the freshest recorded sound I've ever heard. And perfect for a Spring afternoon on a day off. Yes!

Ah, Bop City. A great album and a fav from the good old Flat Response days. You made a wise purchase.......

Please tell me more. I bought it because I liked the cover and knew the name from somewhere but couldn't place it.

A real easy-listening afternoon for me - including Joan Armatrading, Tony Bennett and Michael Buble. To be honest, after all the intense listening I've done over the past few weeks auditioning speakers, I just needed something that I could drift in and out of whilst pottering around doing the chores.
Having said that, I did re-arranged the rack supports a bit today so I'll have a slightly more focussed session later tonight to see what the results are.

The FR was a short lived HiFi mag of the mid 80s, with some fairly scurrilous journalism but always fun to read. Chris Frankland (the editor) always rated Bop City highly and I have found this in my copy from March / April 1985 in an article - The Best of 1984
"I suppose if I had to choose one stand-out album from 1984 then I would unhestitatingly choose "Bop-City from Ben Sidran (Antilles AN1012). Although the album was actually recorded during 1983, it was not until laps year that it was sold in the UK, and even then it was only available in small numbers.........The end result is an album of unparalleled recording quality ( I have nothing in my record collection to better it) and excellent music plus peerless musicianship. No one whom I have played the album to has so far resisted the temptation to jot scribble down the catalogue number. It is a rare gem"
So, you can see he liked it, and if you have an original Antilles version it was a great find.

Thanks for the info. Definitely Antilles, black label, red sun and green palm tree with blue sea. Run out grooves inscribed by hand, A- "For Leo" on side A, and A-2 "For Judy" on B as well as the catalogue AN 1012 A/B. Oh, and she's mint. Very happy, sounds so good.

Total change in sound from their 1st. Interesting album needs repeated listening.
Out 20th April
Feeling moderately guilty about playing this through Sonos Connect W4S Remedy Kingrex into Hugo -but it sounds simply astounding!

Ruby The Hatchet ~ The Eliminator (2014)
Really enjoying this band, this time on their 15 minute EP.
I've just ripped this CD that I 'purloined' from my father's CD collection. Brilliant country blues album with excellent SQ.
And staying with stuff that sounds fresh:

Ruby The Hatchet ~ Valley Of The Snake (24 Feb 2015)
I agree with every word that "Sorren" of this forum wrote about this band and this album. Such great news that bands like this this are still emerging, I thought those days had passed. Great stuff!!
"I fell in love with this album on first listen. Catchy riffs, great vocals and just the right vibe. Every so often I find a band that really appeals to me. Ruby The Hatchet is just such a band."
"Fantastic new album! Heavy hitting, hard rocking, mesmerising vocals and an all around fantastic heavy stoner psych sound."
First some superior pop:
Then something a little more cerebral:

A standing out writing in red on my copy says: "A Digital Recording". Another one ruined.
My favourite KC album, and excellent reproduction, too. One of those albums that you just have to listen to in one go for from beginning to end
I know the later Dire Straits albums tend to generate rather polarised views on here but I've always liked this one. Some songs are clearly light-hearted but Iron Hand carries some passion about the eighties miners' strike.
