Late For The Sky - Jackson Browne
SJB
John
This is one of my favourite Jackson Browne albums. Is it a CD or a download? Thanks.
Dave
It's the CD version I have, I just have it ripped for the convenience of listening to tracks on a playlist. I was lucky enough to come across nearly 2 dozen audio fidelity/DCC/MFSL CDs in a charity shop. Felt sorry for the poor sod who bequeathed all the CDs to his progeny only for them not to realise their value!
still, they've come to a good home.
SJB
If you can't afford the DCC get a copy of the Japanese 20P2 disc as it has a beautiful warm analogue sound to it.
How about the 24 bit - 96Khz. "Late For The Sky" (Édition Studio Masters) download from Qobuz?
Dave
Couldn't tell you Dave as I don't do streaming though will probably do so by the end of the year.
As far as I am aware there have been 4 masterings of the album. 1st release, DCC, Remaster with reverb added and the latest remaster done last year.
I have the first 2 didn't like the 3rd and haven't heard the 4th however I would imagine that the Qobuz download will be the latest remaster.
Don't think anyone will be interested in that of mine though!

Eh?
A recording on the BIS label, though my copy is in the Brilliant classics Complete Bach Edition.

Two minutes of music worth anyone's time.
ATB from George
Several albums late afternoon into evening from Spotify main system running some hours on the new DAC, despite it's cheap price seems to be doing an OK + job.
Jackson Browne - Lawyers in Love, a couple of Kraftwerk albums and some Afro Celts.
Howard
Sorry if I missed it elsewhere. What DAC did you get ?
Lawyers In Love is an under-rated disc, hope it sounds awesome.
Enjoy!

Jeff as my kit DAC died and a S/H MacMini was on it's way I got a Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 from Richer Sounds, down to £100 in the sale. I hope to get something like the Hugo but didn't want to splash out too much until I get the steaming side sorted. If I ever do !!!.
..and yes JB and the others were sounding pretty good , not sure what rates awsome though.
The Detroit pianist, Cynthia Raim, is striking a fine balance between a bold sound an articulation, changing pace and moods fluently, making it a very enjoyable Schumann. The performance was well recorded at the First Presbyterian Church in Utica, NY in 2005.
Don't think anyone will be interested in that of mine though!
Eh?
Sorry, meant to type 'in that lot of mine'.
Hot off the press. MM's first 33RPM release for 2015.
My friend warned me Eric Dolphy's 'Out to LUnch!' is 'practically unlistenable'.
This is the first time I listen to this album and indeed the music is a bit 'out there' for sure. This is a mid 60s avant-garde free style jazz like what Coltrane was doing towards end of his career.
This certainly ain't the Bebop.
But the instrument colours are so vivid and life like there is something mesmerizing about holographic vibes mixed with a long bass line solo in the title track. Or horns going at it with drums could be a pure mess but in this recording, all more interesting as I can hear more of textures and overtones not to mention rhythmically these guys are *ON*. It's sort of like a fun adventure roller coaster ride.
It isn't for everyone and this is not a sort of comfortable album like ever popular Kenny Burrell's pipe and slipper type of jazz. This is a type of music that is on the edge and unpredictable making me wonder what they are up to at all time. I don't normally like much of free style jazz, but this I enjoy it.
As all of Music Matters releases, Francis Wolf's original prints are presented in glorious art book quality resolution ( 300dpi+ ). The vinyl is flat and dead quiet.
John Mellencamp's many albums typically showed attention to recording and production quality with tight percussions, a realistic timbre to acoustic strings, and a lively reverb on electric guitars. These two are no exception. Both from his 2005 remaster series on CD. Uh Huh (1983) and Human Wheels (1993).

Geeking out on Hancock's Maiden Voyage.
A long awaited MM33 does not disappoint!
Perhaps the noise floor is higher than other MM titles, but it's the most dynamic remaster by far out of other pressings I own. My big question mark was how it fairs to the Analogue Production's 45.
No questions. MM33 wins hands down for me. So now I have the most realistic sounding Maiden Voyage that I can play in the main rig. I just love what they did with the drums.
Red Hot Chili Peppers. First of their Greatest Hits compilations. From CEMA, 1994. On a sealed and freshly opened CD dug out of the used bin for $3. Equally funky and more rappy than their current output. Fun stuff and quite diggable.
