Alison Krauss & Union Station ~ Paper Airplane (2011)

Alison on her own and / or with Union Station have been a revelation to me as it has not been the style of music I have listened to before.

This great song from 1967 is even more more touching in this 1968 BBC version:

The original Tallahatchie bridge which collapsed in 1972, is seen in this clip. At 2:57 we see a missing handrail (suggesting that Billie Joe jumped off at that point) and at 4:00 we see beautiful Bobby strolling over the bridge. At the end we see white flowers floating on the muddy river (which she picked from Choctaw Ridge a year after the supposed event).

Very moving, especially in her local Southern accent. A landmark song!

Another brilliant version from 1971 (listen at 3:30 - Mama said to me "Child? What happened to your appetite") :

Amazing song, thrilling story....

And listen to the song Morning Glory, starting at 4:00 in this clip.... What an incredible singer!

As encore we see a young Donovan in another moving song, finishing off in a very cheerful duet

Great stuff thank you Bert. I very well remember being captivated by her, her voice and this song back in the day. Your clips bring it all back.

Indeed. That BBC clip is excellent. I was not so much captivate by her back then (though she is beautiful) as intimidated by the hair

Thanks Stevee,

It's a incredibly moving song. The diction and way she sings this! So much suspense in her lyrics, perfect rhyming....

That first BBC clip from 3:28, how she sings with some perfect rubato (delay) "He would be plea---sed to have dinner on Sunday..... oh by the way"

The dark celli at 3:52.....

And her beauty!

Relax Nick, she had changed it to brunette in the 2nd clip. Or was it not the colour that intimidated you

Great stuff

Can't say this does a whole lot for me.

Apart from the well known this doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Interesting music, sometimes gentle, sometimes a bit of modern...

Ssssh on mono vinyl.

I think both Soldier, and in particular Party, were undervalued. Songwriting and band were both strong.

Soldier is a great album. I miss my vinyl. I remember i recorded a cassette from radio and Dog Food was first before Peter Gabriel's  Games Without Frontiers. And some Kate Bush on background (sister's stereo).

I love rock'nroll candor!

I know you'll not stuck on the "bad words".

If you like Soldier i feel to suggest this.

About 30 double vinyl copies on discogs.

CD rip. For a recording from 1952 the SQ is amazing. The Bird really flies on this one.
