Johannes-Passion BWV 245 (first version)
Experiencing a one voice per part Johannes-Passion. Certainly, it doesn't blow you out of your seat in the opening dramatic high point but tends to focus on clarity and the text rather than its largeness.

Goldfrapp ~ Seventh Tree (2008)
Their fourth studio album.
"Seventh tree is still envelope-pushing, edgy, inspiring, warm, inviting, blissful and retains that glorious oddness that has always defined Goldfrapp for me. Listening to this feels like taking a shower in warm honey whilst having a violent attack of the goose-pimples." - G.Thomas VINE VOICE
This is a terrific new album from Andy Sheppard, rather dreamy in character, but very involving at the same time. Beautifully recorded, as you'd expect.
On CD. Cheers,
EJ

I have had this on constant rotation all week. I think it is outstanding.
Jazzwise said it was a career best album. The Telegraph had a different idea criticising the guitars and electronics - bizarre as that's what makes this album so good.
Are you going to see this at Turner Sims on the 30th?

It's a bit far on a school night, and Hilary's really not a great one for live jazz. I agree about the guitars and electronics, which make the album refreshingly different from the standard saxophone quartet.

I missed that one: something I must remedy.
ewe,
Thanks. Your reply prompted me to look into the subject on the SH forum. What a can of worms I opened! Interesting but sad to read about the purported deterioration of the SD analog masters. I already have the SD vinyl to play in the house, so for my part I'm just looking for a CD set to play on the boombox in my shop and Citizen seems like good VFM for that purpose.
I have all original cds as well as the SHM Sacd's but the two tracks I miss having is Here at the Western World which is on this set and Dallas which was on the ABC E.p. but never re-released. Unfortunately since I gave up vinyl years ago I gave away my whole collection to friends foc.
Privileged friends indeed! BTW, you might be interested to know that while I was probing the SH forum I found someone there from Scotland named 'monewe' using your avatar
Same guy but hardly post on it these days. Can always go back to vinyl at anytime as I have an LP12/Ittok sitting in a cupboard doing nothing apart from gathering dust.
Can't remember exactly how many albums I gave away but it was between 3500 to 4000 and on top of that about 1500 singles.
Original Reprise vinyl. I don't think I've heard this one since I was 15 or 16. A friend from school had this but I never bought it.

I had to get rid of my albums in 1986 and never bought an album for about 20 years. Slowly rebuilt in the last few years, I'm taking this lot to my grave now!
Promised myself of listen of this album a few days ago. I much prefer the live album over the studio album. The latter is a bit pretentious and sterile while the former sounds like the band were up for it and having fun.
First listen. HDTracks download. Peter's guitar playing is brilliant as ever. His voice sounds eerily like the late Jack Bruce.
This is an album that I listen to pretty frequently.
Zappa/Captain Beefheart Bongo Fury
A recent purchase. Heard it at a friend's and was impressed with the quality of reproduction. My experience to date with Eagles' albums (CDs) has been disappointment with the reproduction. I even tried a High Def download of Hotel California and found it over-blown - in fact I preferred my original mediocre CD.
This album is a CD from '94 and its reproduction quality is excellent. The live rendition of Hotel California is lovely.
Interesting album - over bandcamp
Like this a lot Bert. Bought!
Did yet have the time, but I will indeed buy it, high quality. There are some other interesting new finds on my band camp profile in my wish list as well.
I keep playing this - it's got right under my skin. Heartily recommended to folk who like their piano trio with a bit of edge.
Ripped to HDX. Looking forward to his gig later in the year at the Royal Albert Hall!
