LoneLady. Infectiously dark funk, but poppy too.

Not everyday's music, but very special and enjoyable. From band camp...

This should appeal to Gary Shaw who likes a bit of 'Tron'

I'll be ordering the vinyl from Burning Shed.

It's true! Pre-ordered the CD last week, and can't wait.

And so finally...!

And very good it is too...typically dark, lashings of 'tron. Bound to be a grower too.

This album is a CD from '94 and its reproduction quality is excellent.  The live rendition of Hotel California is lovely.

Your experiences mirror mine MDS. I will have to find and give this CD a go. Is your CD on the Geffen Records label from '94? Thanks

It is indeed, Steve.  Am giving it another play now.  The live tracks really are superb.

Mary Black ~ The Holy Ground (1993)

Because I am enjoying female vocals today and have not listened to this album in a  number of years. The final track Poison Words is beautifully sung and very special.

Yep, this and your earlier play of Circus are lovely albums, Steve.  I'm really quite excited at the prospect of seeing Mary B live at Guildford on 2nd May

Dukas' huge sonata has been recorded before, most notably by Marc-André Hamelin, but new recordings of it, let alone Dukas' complete music for piano, remain rarities. The pianist, 51-year old Hervé Billaut, is unknown to me but clearly has the chops and the Steinway to do this work justice. First spin.

Don Henley ~ Actual Miles (1999)

While I wait (expectantly and hopefully) for an Eagles SHM - CD to arrive from Japan I thought I would queue up something from  Don Henley.

Strauss: Berlesque

Written when Strauss was only 21, this score packs many different ideas in one long fantasy piece.

Serkin maintains more mature restrained stance compared to Janis’ going all out with more of 20th century approach. Whilst Serkin delivers impeccable timing and articulation, reckless youth and a demonic sense of humor are missing making the tune a bit bland.

Ormandy's direction is equally bening, at times he sounds like orchestrating for 'the other' Strauss.

Big Big Train ~ English Electric:Full Power (2013)

One could easily believe that this is a good soft prog' rock album released in the mid '70s (shades of the Canterbury scene bands, early Genesis, Yes and others)

Ravel Gaspard de la Nuit: 1974 recording.

The piano version does not have the scale and harmonic density of the orchestra version but it exposes the structure and phrasing of the tune much better. On the slow 2nd movement Martha pulls apart all of Debussian influence which buried in the orchestral version. Scarbo is sufficiently intense and jarring. Deliberately abrupt and disjointed. Argerich is in her top form.

With so much Tangs being played around these parts recently, I thought I'd join in.

This is an original UK Virgin LP:
