I think I've concluded that this is may favourite Tori Amos album. Indeed, having played it all the way through once I immediately hit the 'play' button and listened to it again!
Some of her stuff has just come out as 24 bit too
I'll be interested to know what you make of a 24 bit version, dayjay. To take advantage of that I'd need to download, transfer to USB stick, and plug into my nDAC. All a bit clumsy so the 24 bit would need to be really worth the effort. What's more, all of Tori's CDs I've heard have been of excellent reproduction quality so I wonder what more 24 bit can offer.

Freakishly good record. She's bonkers, of course.
Hi Winky. She certainly seems troubled when one listens properly to some of her lyrics. Makes me wonder what's happened in her life.

She was raped when she was young

Her recordings are generally very good anyway but the 24 bit version of Under the Pink is fantastic, seems to have loads of emotion to it even for someone who is only a fan on occasion. Well worth the trouble in my opinion

Thanks, dayjay. Might look into that. What site did you get it from, if you don't mind my asking?

I'd need to check with Mrs Dayjay to be certain but I would imagine uk hdtracks, we only buy downloads from there or Qobuz depending on price, availability and offers. I'm sure she will pick up the others too in time
Regarding Tori Amos:
Came across this yesterday and this interview appears to have been done on a "good day" for Ms Amos. Discussing the newest release Unrepentant Geraldines:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUrzhMxUHu0
She is the daughter of a preacher and part of her heritage is Native American. All the "kids of preachers" I have known in my life march to their own drummer (and it ain't god). Immense talent and I think the quirky side adds to her uniqueness though friends have argued with me that without Kate Bush there could be no Tori Amos. They haven't convinced me. I don't like everything I have heard but there are 5 or 6 I wouldn't want to live without.
Personal favorites are Little Earthquakes, Scarlett's Walk, The Beekeeper, and Unrepentant Geraldines and the Sunny Florida video which comes with a cd of additional Scarlett tracks.
She has been quoted as having said " "you know in the beginning, when I say in the beginning I mean like when I got my first dog, I crossed the ocean and got a flat tire, and really that's how I interpret these sonic shapes."

Thanks for that, Jeff. She's one weird lady, albeit very talented.
Added a few favorite TA recordings to my original post.
Rush, Hemispheres, 24 bit flac via Hugo. Something to chill to after watching Messi set the pitch on fire. One of my favourite Rush albums from when they were still doing the whole prog rock thing. Awesome music and Geddy still at his high pitched best.

Also should let you know Tori records many of her shows and releases them in two disc sets or downloads. If interested, search Tori's Legs and Boots. Have two of her solo shows (L.A. and Chicago) and a SanDiego band show. You get the spontaneity of the live experience and they are nicely recorded (and least in my low-end sq needs, others may disagree).
CD
On LP.
Sergei Rachmaninov: Zara Nelsova (violincello), Artur Balsam (piano) on vinyl
Sonata in G minor for Cello and Piano, Opus 19
It is nice to go back in time to when a stop watch rushed performance was as rare as a slower performance is today. I think today the pressure to sell yourself and flex your muscle is so much greater and this seems to push musicians to perform faster and faster to an audience who demands this type of playing due to there own musical illiteracy (my opinion only).
Neil Young-On the Beach. Classic earlyish Neil.
Skrowaczewski/Minnesota Orchestra's Ma Mere l'Oye.
Slower overall tempo has more narrative quality than Monteux’s dancing Mother Goose.
Lively and crystal clear, it feels a bit like Stravinsky’s Firebird rather than foggy mystic French tunes. A huge dynamic swing and extremely colourful imagery like stepping into an anime land.
The simplicity of Ravel's beautiful melody line is enhanced.
These are original Box Vox record set but they remastered it for Quad ( Sansui QS ) and they spread the score over 2 sides rather than a single sided.
Excellent dynamic and low level details. Much better than usual Vox releases including above average record surface noise.

+1
His playing is definitely very special on this album, and others. It gives the music a kind of air and voice / singing quality which is realy unique
Joining you, Bert. Do you also have his early Bach/Boulez recording with the 4th partita?
Cheers
