This is earlier period so sounds more active etc, but I hope you anyhow like it. Later on I think the albums sound in the direction from an atmospheric perspective like...

Sorry, I should have added 'in my opinion'. I have lots of albums by both Marcin Wasliewski and Tord Gustavsen and find them very different in style and mood - I can't put my finger on the diference, but they are just.... different.

Thanks Bert! Yes, it's a super record. I've found two other early ones following your recommendation of this one - they are on their way from Poland.

Happy to hear that it at least landed well. When I compare i always try to catch the generic atmosphere which comes over to me. I am not as eloquent as Kuma and EJ to describe what I like about my classical pieces f.i. but I when I recommend something in that field it is in my opinion really good...

Love these performances, which went largely under the radar at release in 2008. With no obvious regard for period practice, Zimmermann applies vibrato, swoons, feathers, slides and generally behaves as if he never met the Kuijken brothers - he and Pace play with swing and passion. But crucially, they also get that sad, reflective aspect right - as so few really do (Kuijken / Leonhardt being the benchmark here, but also the young Mullova in her recording with Canino is excellent).

Cheers,

EJ

La Sultanne, a 10 minute work, is one of Couperin's immediately recognisable tunes and recorded often. This is a very good performance, slightly efficient, but with sound quality that elevates it to a higher level. Amandine Beyer included the work on her latest album 'Apotheoses', just as well recorded but a performance with more personality.

Mark Knopfler ~ Golden Heart (2003)

As ever with MK this is a well recorded album with great sound quality.

"Golden Heart proves Knopfler worthy of his reputation. Three of the tunes, recorded in Dublin, feature uillean pipes, violin, bouzouki, accordian and Paul Brady on whistle. Intensely atmospheric, these instruments support lyrics from a lost age. Another wonderful song, "Je Suis Desole", is straight out of New Orleans, with Michel Doucet on fiddle and Sonny Landreth on steel guitar. However, Knopfler is not on a world-music binge; the bulk of Golden Heart, with its straightforward love songs and happy-to-be-alive shuffles, was recorded with studio musicians in London and Nashville. Of course, it doesn't really matter where or with whom Golden Heart was recorded, because Knopfler's warm and mellow electric guitar and voice saturate every track"- James Swift
