Sylvan?

A German Band with Great Songs.

The Vovalide could be better IMHO....

You lucky man, Steve. Great album and great live band, some tracks quite soulful and bluesy.

Hope you're well. Enjoy them.

I'm well thanks Tony. Happy New Year. I used to play this CD repeatedly in the car on my many trips down to Devon in the late '90s. I probably left it in the car when I sold it.

Now switched to Mari. She doesn't deliver the very best on Beethoven. But her quiet and measured approach is quite enjoyable to me. So I will stay with this for now...

Happy new year, Steve. Yes, I saw them live in 97'  at the V Festival and it was also constantly being played on the road. Gotta dig it out and have a listen sometime.

+1 Love the version of "Smash" featuring Jimmy Greene on soprano sax.

I always like going back to this record. Well recorded and showing that the trio is still rocking. I especially like the song Somewhere Everywhere......., I hope we still will see some more recording of these guys...

Superb album, Matt. It is simply poignant that Andy's death ended up bringing this two back together again.

Prompted by the link I posted re the Gregory Porter Liquid Spirit Deluxe album issue over in the new releases thread.

Haven't played it in awhile.

An excellent compilation of some of Hindemith's sonatas for piano and another instrument; he wrote sonatas for just about any wind instrument and here we have the sonatas for trumpet, trombone and althorn, as well as those for violin (with Isabelle Faust) and cello (not with Jean-Guihen Queyras). All these works are top tier Hindemith, but the violin sonata, new to me, is the standout work.

Toscanini's Grand Canyon Suite  is more American than American conductor playing.

He does the great *Americana*.

Radiant intro movement contrasted well with moody ominous 2nd, and all too familiar 3rd with corny violin intro. Toscanini makes a fun of this corny tune by gilding it with elegance. Give it more interest with varying tempo, too. Sweet and tender 4th. A poor sound quality prevents the power of 5th mvt. to come through fully, unfortunately.

American compositions for a change.
