Dirtwire ~ The Carrier (2014)

This band are really growing on me. The music is hard to categorise and as another patron said over on Bandcamp "This thing is impressive! I didn't know what to expect when I knew about it and I still don't know what to say about it now. It goes into every possible directions, it's so great and will last for long in my list that's for sure. GOOD FRESH VIBES, this is what it is to me..."

Hozier - Hozier

Hozier - Hozier. A very good album powerful both musically and in the meanings and lyrics. Bluesey in places and very engaging. The hit 'Take Me To Church' is the track which prompted me to get the album and is a classic in the making. If you get a chance have a listen, you might just like it.

Shakey Graves ~ Roll The Bones (2011)

He's a Texican and this is probably his best album to date, recommended and linked here:

https://shakeygraves.bandcamp....album/roll-the-bones

" It's just so chilled. Acoustic guitar, little bit of banjo, some body drums and nice mellow vocal performances "

" trying to describe the reasons I loved Roll the Bones left me speechless for 30 minutes. I couldn't think of a way to describe it without falling short."

This has just arrived from Poland, following a tip off from Bert. It's another great album, and what's most amazing is that it's from 1995, when Marcin Wasilewski was only 20.

And now this. What a great trumpet player.

AndrĂ©s  Segovia ~ The Art of Segovia (2002)

This lovely Deutsche Grammophon double CD running to over two and a half hours from well remastered originals. He's heard here in familiar recordings between 1952 and 1969. Very few age allowances need to be made for the sound quality reproduced, his interpretation and delicacy of playing shine through from over half a century ago.

Completely agree. A wonderful re-issue. Marvellous on every level. This set is a third of the Segovia I have on CD [in iTunes] and gets a regular airing. Never seems to grow old or too familiar!

Haven't played any of their albums for what seems like an eternity but all the posting of the albums in the last few days made me dig them out.

Only By the Night, Kings of Leon, the album that gave them a number of mainstream hits in the UK, including Sex on Fire and Use Somebody.  An excellent modern rock album highely recommended even if my fave KOL song remains Molly's Chamber.  Flac streamed via Hugo

I've got tickets to watch these at a festival later this year, along with Fish and others and I really know nothing by them - will have to fire up Spotify and have a listen

Nope haven't seen it around for years. Though there is a possibility if you know someone in Poland they might be able to hunt around for a copy for you.

They also did the following which I don't have copies of

Getxo Jazz 96 - XX Festival Internacional De Jazz De Getxo

Charles Mingus: Cumbia & Jazz Fusion 1977 Release.

The album consists of two long narrative tunes. Surprisingly holding my interest together.

This album was my first exposure to the Left Hand Concerto. I purchased this CD when it came out ( circa 1998 ) and since then, it has been played to death with many *battle scars* on the CD surface. it's a small miracle that it can still be read. Albeit the sound quality deteriorated over the years due to probably error correction working overtime. This was the disc I used to use as one of my hifi demo disc for audition or at shows.

I remember it was a huge disappointment when I went to hear this piece played by Jean-Yves Thibaudet. So many errors during the play and no dynamics. I'd reckon this is a nerve wrecking piece to play live but still there was no magic. Also I missed Boulez deft handling of the orchestra.

My 19 year old son is home from college for the summer. We've been enjoying some vinyl replay together. A sampling of some of the LPs he requested. "Makes me realize how shitty MP3s really are" was his comment.
