Mary's best album in my view, and she's got lots of good ones.  The title track and Carolina Rua are particularly captivating.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, Mike.  I saw her at Guildford a couple of weeks ago and it was wonderful. She covered a wide range of her classic songs, including the two i mentioned above, and the four musicians supporting her were superb in their own right.  Not quite so sure about her warm-up act, Brian Kennedy if I remember correctly, but she seemed to love him.

It's always a delight to hear these three guys, finding each other blindly...

No mention of the sublime 'Columbus'?!

Do you have an SACD player?

Ah ok. 24/96 native or higher res.?

Rush, Exit Stage Left, the sound of my youth. I remember thinking, before I saw them live in 82, I hope they are half as good as that, and they were actually twice as good.  Happy days. Flac streamed via Hugo, and very nicely too!

Joni Mitchell: Miles of Aisles 1974 Release.

This isn't my favourite Joni record but a great 99 cent first pressing find at Dave's.

Rattle/Berliner: Ravel L’enfant et les sortilèges

The voices take over orchestra so Rattle's polite direction isn't a deficit here.

Whimsical yet sophisticated colourful fantasy opera. Meticulous orchestraion and scoring by Ravel, there are a lot of small details and sound effects create this magical kingdom.

Classy quiet ending where the whisper carries more weight than the big bang finale.

I bought the 24/96. I cannot hear the difference between a 24/192 file and a 24/96, so since the higher resolution file takes more storage room and is more expensive, I always go for the 24/96 option.

There is a surround mix available as well for those people who enjoy that. Or a DSD file, since they record and mix using DSD streams.

They really nailed the mix for the performance this time. Channel Classics is very dedicated to maintaining a high standard anyway, but this one is even by their standards a gem. But most importantly, so is the performance. In an ocean of Mahler 9 recordings, this one stands out for me. And the colour and the 'eastern' sounding of the Budapest Festival Orchestra really works for their Mahler performances. I always hear how much of an eclectic mix of music traditions Austria must have been at the time Mahler lived.

Fischer's approach makes so much sense to me.

On period instruments which creates a complete different atmosphere from what you are used to. I am not a forte piano fan due to it's limitations, but it works pretty well in the context of this album. The violin playing is an absolute delight with also this dark tonality.

Their third album and still very much in their blues days.

IMHO still their best.

Remembered seeing this here, when I found a cleaned vinyl copy for £2.99 in my Oxfam, yesterday. Bought it. Playing now. She's sweet!

LP - WaxTimeReords 2014 re-issue : )

I've been around the world, seen everything
And if it's love you want baby just give me a ring
I can't lose with the stuff I use
I'm the king of the blues

I've loved in sunshine, I've loved in the rain
All of the women who know me call that loving man
I can't lose with the stuff I use
I'm the king of the blues

Some people go to school to try and learn their trade
Yes, but I'm a lover, a lover by nature
That's why I know, I know, I know I've got it made

Yes, you might think I'm jokin' or just havin' fun
But they tell me the reason I'm the king
I'm a lovin' son of a gun
I can't lose with the stuff I use
I'm the king of the blues

 From this morning

Posted on: 15 May 2015 by Richard Dane

I hadn't listened to this album for a while (Stunning BTW if you like their particular mix of Floydish prog, electronica, ambient, and trip-hop) but did so on my iPod last week while on the train to Crewe.  I realised it was the first time I'd really spent time listening to it on headphones - I felt it worked really well on headphones -  and made a note to listen on the Stax 404 Signatures when I got home.  So this afternoon I'm trying to write a report but finding it really hard with this playing in and around my head...

Archive - Controlling Crowds The Complete Edition Parts I - IV

Reminds me, I have their latest album on vinyl, which I haven't yet unwrapped...
