Playing the four Miroirs, comparing the 12 years old recording to his Sunday's concert. The performance on the disc is tamer, lacking in tones, colors and dynamics. On the stage Tharaud exhibited a great level of intensity and focus, better timing and a sharper shift of moods. The audience (Kuma?) participated in active coughing.

Superb Fidelio benchmark recording of a wonderful album. When I heard a full 500 system a few years back, this was the dem disc.

2Qute performing very very well on this.

The Hugo has gone, Graeme!? Do explain please

Swapped out for a nice black 2Qute. Simply didn't require portability, pre or headphone out so thought I'd cash it in before the S/H Hugo market falters due to 2Qute pricing, TT upgraders.

G

Thanks, Graeme. Hope you're pleased with the results. Don't think I've noticed anyone on here giving up a Hugo. You might be a pioneer!

Dirtwire ~ Rip Tide (12th May 2015)

Their latest album just released and my first opportunity to listen to it properly. Dirtwire  have a distinctive style that continues to mature. Their style is hard to pigeonhole so for now I shall just list some "Tags" used to categorise them: Americana, blues, bluegrass, electro- acoustic, world. It's all put together very well and the music gets nicely under the skin.

The 2Qute is a Hugo minus the features I don't need. After a day's solid playing it is coming on song nicely. That's for another thread.

Ian Neal - All In The Golden Afternoon

I came across Ian Neal (in the same way I did Cranium Pie, also recommended) by way of Amorphous Androgynous (aka Future Sound Of London) mix album A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding In Your Mind (Volume 1). And then I parked it for future reference, which came today.

This album is, in today's terms, Symphonic Prog. If it had been released in the late 60s it would have been an orchestral psych masterpiece (Prog not having been invented as a term back then).

It's a complete delight. Proggy yes, orchestral yes, spliced with magic yes. It's primarily instrumental with most tracks having some spoken word (poetry by Lewis Carroll, Rudyard Kipling). It exudes charm.

If there was an album that I thought would appeal across the Naim Music Room this'd be a prime contender for me.

I will be investigating his other albums...

This is the track that was on the Amorphous album:

It wasn't me. ( duuno why you think that )

Altho, I've noticed that the level of coughing, hacking and sneezing has been high-ish in the recent concerts.

Nevermind the coughing.

Did you hear the Iphone cricket ring tone?

At least It wasn't as bad as Tiberghien's recital where poor guy had to start a tune twice due to cell phone going off!

Directions to see a ghost and this one are different. I think they're both good records but i'm getting old for mysticism.

Phosphene Dream is more straight.

All CD manufacturing

takes place in one of the largest CD pressing factory’s in Europe, with a monthly production of 20 million discs. The CD’s are replicated on large pressing machines, using stampers produced from the glass mastering process. This is the type of disc you would buy from HMV and not to be confused with CD duplication.

Have been playing quite a bit of Seal today.  This album is a bit slower than his normal style and he shows he can do ballads.  The two different versions of You Get Me on here are lovely.
