Now streaming in wav... I was lucky to see her perform most of this incredible album in London  and I have to say she sent shivers down the spine, an amazing soulful songstress and consummate performer truly memorable.

No Man: Together We're Stranger

Not come across this one, Richard.  There's quite a few versions on the sites of the usual on-line vendors.  Any advice on what year recording to go for?

Enjoying the relaxing, slow-tempo music of Volume 1: Love Songs from the talented Suzanne Vega. Hoping to see her live next month.

M, I have two issues of this.  IIRC, I first bought the CD and then decided later to get the DVD-A (which also comes with another CD).  One seems fractionally "louder" than the other, but the DVD-A is excellent, so maybe just go for the DVD-A/CD issue.  Easy to turn the DVD-A into 24/96 files....

Symphonies nrs 5 and 6 from Norrington's pioneering HIP set. Woodwind out of tune, weird balances, thin-sounding string section, fast tempos, all contribute to very engaging and atmospheric performances - Norrington didn't get enough credit for his quite ingenious use of dynamic and tempo accents to keep the music from ever growing stale. These hold up well over time.

What did you think? I can't find the article in Gramophone online. Do you have link?

Joni Mitchell: Mingus

This was Mingus' last work. Lyrics written by Mitchell.

Lovely music. No sure about Michell's lyrics sort of comes out of place to me.

Couldn't open it right now - this app is really a problem. But it's one of the first pages in the Grammaphone Magzin. Ps while I find her approach to the whole topic of making and publishing music interesting I do prefer other recordings. But you can try it for yourself by downloading this on bandcamp, it's not costly.

After a  sleepless night I figured I may as well get up early and listen to some music before work, Shawn Mullins' excellent Beneath the Velvet Sun is providing to be an adequate consolation,  at least for now

As always enjoying a piano album, she plays it a bit too machine like for my liking....

Amazing Tales of Time and Space ~ Cousin Silas, Kevin Lyons (2015)

"Ambient music that paints pictures in the mind, music that conjures up the places and spaces that one can only read about in sci-fi novels and weird fiction."  Downloaded from Bandcamp

It's strange how many of the records we own seems to tell nothing to other people. I can't remember dates, tel numbers and sometimes names etc but if i listen to a song i can tell you exactly the weather, the place, the people and the feelings..... Listening to those records is like to watch pictures i do not have.

Good record.

I understand Richard's comments - also have a strange relationship with this album. For now I would guess it's special as it left an impression.
