I can still remember the very first time I heard this album.  As teenagers a friend and I were browsing the LPs in the record section of our local department store and came across this album. Neither of us had heard of the band before but the cover intrigued us so we asked the lady behind the counter to play it for us and we retreated to the sound booth to listen (I know that won't mean much to many on here).  The first track, Gypsy, started and it sounded promising.  Then the keyboards cut in, driving the song to a new intensity and we both looked at one another and said 'wow!'.  We then discussed who was more likely to find sufficient money to be able to buy it first.

Tangerine Dream - Live, Reims Cathedral 1974 (Tangerine Tree 30)

Stellar improvisations (in two sections) from a radio broadcast of a concert that scandalised the Church, as the Cathedral was overfilled with boisterously doped-up hippies, leading to a ban on TD using Church property for some time (allegedly).

Can't have helped that Nico was the opening act...

This is a real gem from the Phaedra/Ricochet era Tangerine Tree series.

George Frideric Haendel:  Daria van den Bercken, Klavier

Suite in d minor, HWV 428

Suite in F major, HWV 427

Suite in g minor, HWV 432

Capriccio, HWV 467

Chaconne in G major, HWV 435

Menuet in g minor, HWV 434/4

W.A. Mozart:

From suite 'Dans le style de G.F. Haendel

Music is the elixir of my life (not PRaT).  I have mostly found it quite strange (respectfully) how many could limit there lives to one interpretation of great music and be satisfied that they have arrived at some point of satisfaction with themselves.  While Klemperer, Richter, Fischer and other stalwarts are among the best and must haves anyway they are not, nor never will be, the final word when it comes to musical interpretation (despite being hard to beat often).

I make it my business to support younger performers or those trying to establish themselves in a wicked and devisive world.  I am mostly surprised at what new ideas and life they breath into their music (despite vacuous and hollow claims by many that no one these days can play as profoundly as those of yesteryear, somehow?

Daria van den Bercken is one such artist who just inspires me with her spirit and passion for life.  It is quite remarkably contagious through her playing (on her lovely Bösendorfer Imperial grand).

I just love this music and she does many wonders with it that seems to allow me to hear it afresh.

No, it won't displace my other Haendel favourites (which incidentally is every other recording of Haendel I already have) but if you do not know Haendel and want an introduction, I would recommend without hesitation to start here.

Soulshine

An old Earl Thomas called Soulshine from 2009 anyone who is into Keb Mo would probably like this.

Breakfast on R3 with Martin Handley. Prefer it with Victoria Meakin though. Can't think why

I really like Martin Handley (Ms Meakin's OK too). Bizarrely I dreamt last night of meeting Andrew MacGregor (I'd rather have met Victoria).

Nice one. Yes, Martin's OK. But as a single man, please don't get me started on my late nights with Anne Hilde Neset.

Big Big Train ~ Wassail (1st June 2015)

The full album is not released until next month, in the meantime track one of four is most definitely the BBT sound but going in a slightly different musical direction perhaps...
