David Greilsammer: Baroque Conversation

Greilsammer is lacing 20th century composers among baroque pieces. A brilliant execution.

On vinyl.

All star cast Ellington's Carnegie Live convert in '52.

A bootleg quality sound. Strictly for the die hards only.

Altho, I must admit Bird's solo is pretty cool in Night in Tunisia with Dizzy.

Is it better than their Live at Massey Hall? No. but I just love Parker's sound.

And Duke's piano playing is pretty hard swinging and lovely Billie Holiday is in her top form.

I always has a soft spot for Marriner's Requiem ever since the Amadeus.

This original Argo pressing sounds gorgeous albeit it could use a bit more of a low end weight.

On balance the voices are not as forceful as his later Amadeus edition and takes on gentler easy going approach. Some spots are too bland at times, however.

Queen. News Of The World. On vinyl from 1977. Because I'm a Buckeyes fan and am sweetly enjoying the track 'We Are The Champions' tonight.

Tony never been a great fan of theirs but must admit to quite liking this album. If you want to hear samples pop over to Amazon US as I know they have them up there.

Thanks, Ewe. Will do. I do like their early stuff because they are so "unconventional"  and I have seen some good reviews. If no good, it goes back.

Tony just checking around the web this morning and discovered that overnight the Belle and Sebastion album has been put up on NPR first listen so pop over there to listen to all the tracks.

A very good debut album of a great talent (if one still can speak about talent after a couple of albums). Innovative rhythmic Jazz - fully recommended

Wouldn't call this jazz, but it's going beyond the way these type of instruments would normally play together. Leading to a combination of Nordic/Baltic type of contemplative music. I like it...

John Martyn's Live at Leeds.

Love the performance, love the music, the 'banter' grates, but maybe you just had to be there. I notice from the sleeve notes that it will be forty years ago this year, on 13th Feb, when the gig was recorded. Was anyone there?!
