Joe Walsh. Analog Man. On vinyl from 2012. I felt compelled to pull this out after the responses to "But Seriously Folks". Interesting that after a 20 year hiatus from solo albums JW would go through the effort of an all analog production only to compress the piss out of it. Given his past focus on exemplary sound quality during the 70's it was not unreasonable to have expected something on par. Instead, it plays like a modern CD and musically the majority of songs do little to redeem that fact.

Cheap Trick. Greatest Hits. Remastered CD from 2003. The five songs familiar from FM radio play are indeed great. The rest of the compilation sounds to me like hair band rock. Fluffy and disappointing for a band with more of a hard rock image, though Rick Neilsen's guitar playing is very good throughout.

just purchased this on bandcamp.  The first album from this duo from St Petersburg.  Described as classical  neoprog, which may give you an idea whether you are interested.

A great album David. I thought it was quite unique when I heard it.

Hi Rob. This one's been on my "To Buy" list for a while now but somehow I haven't got around to doing it. I've had it recommended a few times. Must have a look around.

Its a fantastic album, they never got better than this for me

Yes, dayjay.  I know the 'best LZ album?' debate on here produces a variety of views and quite a few plumb for PG but for me the first three albums stand head-and-shoulders above the rest.  I would order them II, I, III, but it's close as I love them all.

Mike

I wouldn't disagree, I have to say though that Led Zep 1 is an astonishing debut album by any standard

I assume you'd also like Jeff Beck's 'Truth' and 'Beck-Ola' then? They are remarkably similar to LZ1.

I've not heard them but thanks for the tip, I'll fire up Spotify at some point and try them

I got both albums on one CD for £5 from Fopp a few years ago, but I see they're still available separately. 'Truth' preceded LZ1 and Beck accused Page of stealing his heavy blues-rock ideas. In fact both albums include versions of Willie Dixon's 'You Shook Me'. It's interesting now to look back at the different directions taken by both guitarists and how Page effectively stagnated after Led Zeppelin, yet Beck continues to explore and develop in the jazz-rock field.

So What

The best cd version so far is the first Japanese pressing cat no WMC5-288 but this may change soon as it is coming out as an SACD hybrid on Audio Fidelity.
