A revival attempt on a muggy afternoon with Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber's Strings. An old Stefan recommendation:

A UN quartet flavor with a German trumpet player, a Hungarian classical guitarist, a Norwegian bassist and a French drummer, all involved in writing pieces for this collective leaderless group.

A Joyosa full of joy circa of 2004:

Randy Newman: Born Again 1979 release.

Some release had a language warning sticker on this album.

This time he takes a shot at American conspicuous consumerism as well as E.L.O.

His previous release 'Little Criminals' ( which caused a protest from short people in the US ) was stronger.

Randy Newman: Land of Dreams 1988 release.

Very 80s. Loved the 'Four Eyes'. Fun playin loud.

Altho the biggest hit from this album was 'it's Money that Matters'.

Guilty pleasure.

I remember borrowing this album from a friend and only liking this tune out of the rest which was too country for me.

Kempe/Berliner: Brahms Symphony 1 1959 recording.

This budget reissue turns out to be a terrific find.

Well paced and crafted. Love the way Kempe strings different sections together with excellent transition.

Not as iron fisted as others but subtle touches here and there and excellent timing keep the music engaging.

At breakfast, the different version of the sonatas

This famous recording has garnered praise since it was first released. When I first heard it, about 25 years ago, I was unimpressed but Kempff's perfectly judged balance and the Berliner's impressive support has slowly won me over. I am still bugged by Kempff's shortcuts (he skips minor notes here and there), and although he is recorded well compared with his solo outings, the sound is still biased to the higher notes.

I'm considering acquiring the high-res files, just for comparison, but I've grown wary of these as I've found they often don't improve or even worsen the experience.

Cheers,

EJ

Good album Sneaky. Forgotten about that one! I'll raise you, though, by playing the original vinyl album (Factory FACT 70):
