James Laid on CD. This album has such an organic sound that just keeps hold of your attention. Love it. I have not had my Naim set up for long. It replaced an old Arcam Alpha 9 set up that I loved but the Amp died. It is so good to get those CD's out that I have not played in a while just to find I have never heard them before!! One very happy Naim convert.

Arrau giving Beethoven the luxury treatment. Recorded near the end of his life, Arrau had become a thoughtful, even cautious pianist in the studio. But even so, his charisma and unerring feel for the musical argument, and not least his unmatched sound, shine through in every note.

James Newton: The African Flower 1985 release.

Blue Note label produced some turkeys in the 80s and this is one of them.

Schneiderhan/Van Kampen Brahms Violin Concerto 1953 recording

This set did not age well sounding chunky and stilted without much of lyricism.

Van Kempen's orchestration sounds sat on taking on a broader tempo compared to more rhythmically *on* Klemperer/Oistrakh set. 2nd movement is workman like with no flowing warm blood.

Stiff as a board there's no sense of fun in it.

Very traditional soloing on top of a background, but fun to listen to - during workout

Earlier this week I was a bit skeptical about this album, but on a 2ND run during my workout, it starts to show me more angles. I guesis I need to listen to more often to start liking it, and will see the guys live at Noth Sea JazZ Festival.
