Hot Tuna ~ First Pull Up Then Pull Down (1971)

Their second album recorded live in April 1971 at the Chateau Liberte in Los Gatos, California with some touch ups at Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco. The album would be released in June, it was the first release to feature Papa John Creach on fiddle and Sammy Piazza on drums.

More early 80s vinyl. Awe-inspiring, epic disco on Side One:

Bach & Beyond Part 1:  Jennifer Koh

Johann Sebastian Bach:  Partita No. 3 in E major, BWV 1006

Eugene Ysaye:  Sonata No. 2, Op. 27

Kaija Saariaho:  Nocturne

Missy Mazzoli:  Dissolve, O My Heart

Johann Sebastian Bach:  Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004

Bach is the perfect way to start any morning.  And one one marvel at how many other composers have been influenced and driven by his music as a catalyst.

Some more early Tull.

Trio Shaham Erez Wallfisch

Hagai Shaham (violin)

Arnon Erez (piano)

Raphael Wallfisch (cello)

Serge Rachmaninov:  Elegiac Trio in G minor

Anton Arensky:  Piano Trio in G minor

Dmitri Shostakovich:  Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor Op. 67

Modest Mussorgsky:  'Une larme' arr. A. K. Krein

All my favourite piano trios usually happen to be in minor keys.  All written within about a 50 year span and all, of course, deliver that typical Russian pathos that illustrates an individuals struggle against something bigger than themselves.  The result is commonly referred to as beauty through the tears.

While the 12-minute "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" represents the apotheosis of Norman Whitfield's epic soul sound, there is lots of other great stuff on this album, including a wonderful version of Isaac Hayes' "Do Your Thing". Early 1980s vinyl:

The most overblown of all epic soul albums. Utterly preposterous, and completely brilliant. A 1970s UK vinyl pressing.

Epic as you say Kevin. I can see the darkened dance floors and disco lights now! Great fun, great vibe...
