Beecham/Royal Philharmonic: Berlioz Te Deum 1953 recording.

A lotta excess of nothing.

James Levine/CSO: Brahms 1 1975 recording

Off with a galloping start out of the gate yet enough sweet winds and horns giving a gentler side, making sure the tune has enough textural interest. Surprisingly matured handling and nicely organised. There is an operatic lyrical undertone.

However, there aren't strong colour and mood variations between the movements. It is as if one long continuous piece. The final movement takes a broader approach missing a bit of crispness and sense of wonder.

Been familiarizing myself with Giulini's Los Angeles recording of the Pathétique. This recording exists in the shadow of Giulini's earlier recording with EMI, and at first I thought this must be the most boring Pathétique yet - but it's really rather excellent in its slow burning, autumnal glow.

Epic as you say Kevin. I can see the darkened dance floors and disco lights now! Great fun, great vibe...

Gosh. Haven't heard any Donna Summer for a long time. Many years ago I got some of her albums as I liked some of her songs but later felt somewhat embarrassed when friends said "Donna Summer! Really?" so  discretely removed her albums from my rack. Well past being embarrassed by such things these days, of course,  so maybe I should explore some of her stuff again.

Having enjoyed Face Value the other evening I thought I dig out another of Phil's albums from this era. The rather creepy Thru These Walls has been a song I've always liked form this album.

Anthony Nickoson: Necessary Phazes  2005 release.

Down tempo groove from the Chi-town.

Beautiful 'New Jazz Funk Movement'. If you like Ron Trent or Kevin Yost, he's right up in your alley.

Thanks to Rob T for prodding me in the direction of this Airbag album.

'WYWH' era Floydy. Lovely.

Of the post-Green era, I think this is Mac's second best album behind Rumours, but still damned good though.  This CD also has excellent reproduction quality.

As much as I like the 70's Whitfield era for me the temps were never the same without Kendricks and Ruffin.

Unknown violinist to me.

Tennstedt's Impressive orchestration shows the grand classical style.  it seems to me that all the passion and emotions are provided not from the fiddle but from orchestra. Hoescher picks somewhat a nervous sounding Kreisher’s cadenza. Interesting but the drama isn’t quite coming through.

Tenndstendt’s orhcestra shows more daring and bold moves needed to spice up.

An endearing selection of UK folky influences from the past, by a chap from Rockford, Illinois.

Multiple splashes of apparent reincarnation of those we have loved and lost. Delightful.

Powell's The Scene Changes again after a slight suspension tweak on the LP12. Sounds even better!
