Hamelin is at his best in the B-A-C-H fantasy, where he couples his considerable technique with edge-of-the-seat excitement. The disc's main dish, the great sonata, just misses out on this level of brilliance - it's slightly too glossy and a shade anonymous. But I'm nitpicking - I'd take Hamelin over just about anybody else save a few favorites.

The Best Of ZZ Top (1977). On Warner Brothers vinyl from 1990. Some hearty Texas-style bluesy rock. Gets the body movin'.

Il Divino, a most appropriate nickname for this renaissance composer. Nigel North interprets and plays it all beautifully.

Some more good ambient downtempo and experimental music from Cousin Silas, this one combines Silas’ particular style of ambient guitar with varying degrees of percussion.

Genesis, The Platinum Collection, disk 1.  Full of their commercial offerings featuring Mr Collins but very enjoyable non the less, and it sounds great.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

It's a CD issue containing The Biggest Thing Since Colossus and outtakes. Recommended.

Fish, A Feast Of Consequences.  I hate to admit it, because this is one of my wife's favourite artists and I get dragged aroound the country to watch him on a regular basis, but this album is nothing short of a masterpiece.  If you like rock music and you haven't heard it, do your self a favour and have a listen.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Was listening to this in the car today - it brought back some fond memories of my youth. While the music of course had it's limitations, it also had it's attraction / beauty due to the simplicity. I again played a forest and seventeen seconds on my system this evening to hear it on a proper system, this is the type of music which doesn't per we need a great system....

Thanks Graham. We're just getting over the effects of a nasty flu bug which truly knock the stuffing out of us. Looking forward to our holiday in Spain in the near future. I trust you are both well. We'll have to arrange another get together sometime soon.
