Oscar Peterson: Soul-O! 1968 release.

This is his first solo record and I am rather enjoying this almost *Art Tatum* like tribute program.

Opening of 'Someone to Watch Over Me' is certainly double take on Tatum with effortless improve technique. Much more creative freedom taken on these programs than usual pipe and slipper Peterson Trio.

Most of tunes in this album are old stand-bys done by Art Tatum, but here Peterson add his own take and gorgeous chord progressions on so the style itself is old school but sounds fresh.

I am just astounded by different colours and rhythmic shifts and all that tricks Peterson is showing off.

How classy. He closes the album with Strayhorn's 'Take the A Train'.

Peterson made a lot of records with many other musicians but I think this solo effort without anyone else is the best of my favourite Peterson record. His playing style seems so much more free and uninhibited.

Her of Civil Wars fame. Think she has been listening too much to Sophie B Hawkins either that or Columbia are pushing her to sound that way. For me disappointing

Usual Young album these days some great trax, some instantly forgettable trax and IMHO some rubbish. He also seems to be having some trouble with his voice on album.

Out June 29th.

That would  a pity if the rec co is trying to do that, Ewe. I really like her and The Civil Wars and they are quite lively on stage( Live at Eddie's Attic).  I'll try to stream the album later on if available.

Surely there is no better way to calm down and relax than by listening to wonderful music after a little Monday blues? And that is the why right now.

First off was "New York" by Lou Reed. It happens to be one of my all time favourite albums. I know "Transformer" is perhaps his milestone album, but for me "New York is his most expressive.

Jazz is coming up with the genius Charles Mingus' "Tijuana Moods" - such a fantastic album!
