Kevin, to use a classic forum phrase, you should grab yourself a SHM-CD Platinum issue, as it makes the Virgin 1995 CD 'sound broken'......  (SHM-CD from Japan of course - but don't worry, they are reassuringly expensive) .............

I should have said, Woy, this was the '95 Vigin/EMI VINYL reissue... don't think I've ever heard this CD you mention.

I wasn't sure if your 1995 vinyl uses the 1995 Bob Ludwig remastering that the '95 CD does. The SHM-CD Platinum uses a new (2013) remastering and sounds superb. If you are also a CD man, maybe consider it - it even comes with a real zip, like your vinyl

1996 vinyl compilation of the great man's biggest hits:

Francesco Piemontesi recorded two albums for Naive, after which it became quiet around him. His first album included recordings of the Schumann and Dvorak piano concertos; the Schumann has little to recommend it, but the Dvorak is excellent. Psychology at work - I never cared much for the CD because the performance of the Schumann tainted my opinion of the Dvorak. However, I've long since given the CD away and now repurchased the Dvorak half of this album as a high-res download. Voila, issue solved. I prefer this issue to the famous Richter / Kleiber record.

'Kiss it Off' positively holographic in WAV from NAS.

This twofer is of course about the two sets of Diabelli, one on a grand, the other on a fortepiano, but Op. 111 as 'filler' is not to be underestimated. Schiff's boogiewoogie variation in Op.111 is not as swinging as some, but a lot better than you might expect from him. A great record.

Mistakenly underrated album of his by some people. I always thought it was one of his best in the '90s.

U2, Achtung Baby, first time I've listened to this since I got my hugo I think, and it sounds very good indeed.  I sometimes think later U2 albums can get a bit lost in the mix but this is really clear and musical.  24 bit flac via Audirvana/Hugo

That's a great album and also a favourite of mine, Kev. Funny bit is that I have the album and  sleeve but can't remember for the life of me  where  I put the cover. It's a mystery!

It's probably down to the brown acid John Sebastian warned us all about at Woodstock...

The Stereophonics, Performance and Cocktails, brilliant album from when they still knew how to rock.  I saw them on this tour and they were superb, pity they have lost their way since.  IMO they never hhit these heights again. Flac via Audirvana/hugo
