Colin Towns doesn't get the appreciation he deserves, an excellent keyboard player/writer. Although on the downside, he is a Eurovision veteran.

Recorded four years ago, arrived here last month. I take much more pleasure discovering existing music than just going after the latest releases. Highly recommended.

Klemperer/Philharmonia Brahms Academic Festival Overture 1957 recording

Klemperer gives more structure and order to the tune. Right from the get-go there is a sense of build up and anticipation of what's to come.  A lot of light drama packed into this little piece. This is the prime example of how the score should be played out.

Klemperer, however, could not save everything- but-the-kitchen-sink-cheezy finale. But done in rather tongue in cheek. ( I think this this the only way this score makes sense )

Roger Waters. The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking. On CD from 1984. No doubt the music is the same, but I'm sad to report that my US copy has those sweet butt cheeks covered over with black tape . And it doesn't peel off

I had to remind myself US after all is a *puritan* country.

Here is another silly sensership on Marisa Monte's Great Noise CD.

US version:

The rest of the world:

And Scorpions Virgin Killer cover:

The black patch makes this tasteless cover even worse.

Lenny/NYP Brahms Academic Festival Overture 1962 recording

Darks and lights with saturation control turned way up. The finale is sufficiently loud and rowdy with a circus atmosphere and heaps of tinsel.

Johann Sebastian Bach:  Gil Shaham (Violin)

Sonata for Violin solo no 1 in G minor, BWV 1001

Partita for Violin solo no 1 in B minor, BWV 1002

Sonata for Violin solo no 2 in A minor, BWV 1003

Partita for Violin solo no 2 in D minor, BWV 1004

Sonata for Violin solo no 3 in C major, BWV 1005

Partita for Violin solo no 3 in E major, BWV 1006

Of core music, I could never be satisfied with only one view.  Hence, to join the rather large group of violinist I already enjoy, this week Gil Shaham came over to play his Strad, the beautiful Countess Pilignac (1699).
