Jamie T, Carry on the grudge on CD. First listen and it is not too bad.

This got only a 3 star review in last Friday's Guardian, but as I love both John Potter's singing, and the sound of the lute, I bought it anyway. Potter is joined by Anna Maria Friman, and the two sing beautifully together. It's a great album, highly recommended.

Jamie T, Panic Prevention on CD. My Wife watched his set from Glastonbury and we ordered 3 of his Cd's. Not my normal genre but I like this.

One of my most treasured CD sets is a 6 CD box, with Harnoncourt directing the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Haydn's London symphonies. The individual CD covers as well as the slipcase are works of beauty (this amazon pic doesn't do it justice).

This is a super record, and at the present time our friends in Greece need a bit of support....

Rush, Hemisperes. Some albums are edgy new acquaintances and some are old friends; this is the latter, and a much loved one at that.  Pure prog rock and pure Rush and so complex that even the world's greatest band found it challenging to produce.  24 bit flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Posted on: 06 July 2015 by hungryhalibut

I'm not sure The Smiths had a go at that.....

And praise the lord for that!

EJS, I was listening the same Symphonies, but my CD set is with Sir Colin Davis as director. Mine is ADD, I guess yours is DDD.

I listened vol 2 first and now I'm listening vol 1.  I miss something is these recordings, expressiveness, warmth? Not asking for passion but some "feeling". Don't have another set to compare. May be a member can comment?

The Best Of The Guess Who (1971). On the 2006 BMC Music CD. I was walking through our TV room while my wife was watching an aftermath show of the World Cup and "American Woman" was being played. A rather fitting song given the Canadian venue I thought. The visceral quality of Burton Cummings vocals were prominent even through the 2.1 soundbar, so I had to give this a listen. Absolutely fantastic recording and sound quality, and among the best compilation albums available.

Inspired by joerand's post a few days ago, I wanted to listen to this.

Julliard String Quartet/Leon Fleisher: Brahms Piano Quintet in F Minor Op.34  63 recording

Clear and dynamic. Low noise natural sounding record. Close mic’d for intimacy and very little distortions through all frequncy. Decent bass warmth and midrange projection.

Unlike Beethoven there is a rich harmonic blend and has overall sweet disposition wthout a hint of uncertainty. Fleisher does a decent job on piano but the fiddle sometimes sound a bit shapless and become a touch monotonous.

On balance, their styling is a bit out of date but reasonably pleasant and this terrific sounding vinyl is certainly a plus.

ARC - Arclight

A recent download of ARC's latest live recording. This one features four tracks from their previous album Umbra and three tracks of new material. Well recorded together with  good sound quality and some great music make this 90 minute [double] CD really enjoyable.
