A great artist, looking forward to his next album...

Tokyo String Quartet/Barry Douglas:

This is a stark 80s digital recording with thin string tone void of naturalness. Fuzzy and pitch unstable piano. Seriously lacking bass dynamics.

A bland interpretation without much of point of view. The finale is dramatic but more like frantic screaming match. They do not have a wide variety of expression and it seems either hot or cold and nothing in the middle.

Bonus Brahms' Intermezzo and Fantasie pieces fair much better in terms of recording quality. Douglas' playing, however, is pretty wooden.

Just found this after reading a blog. An excellent album (hi-res mono download for £1.99 on Q!)

An artist new to me and sounding good.

"A while back Colin Blake had an idea: to create 30 minute slices of sci-fi ambient, slices that could easily fit on the side of a C60 cassette tape. Since the release of “Cones” I was sold on the idea and I have looked for more.

Faith (waag_rel072) is the first in a three-part series that follows Colin’s original C60 idea. Faith is presented as two “sides”: part 1 and part 2, both run near to 30 minutes each and feature some delightfully mysterious ambient music. Over the next few months we will have “Hope” and “Charity” to complete the trilogy." - Bandcamp Comment

Self titled album.

Some pretty good [post] rock from this Aussie band and for just  $2 AUD its nice to support them again.

Still one of my favourites album's of theirs. Hugely different and evocative back in the day.

A collection of American chamber music on the Onyx label, downloaded from Presto Classical (FLAC lossless, 44.1 kHz, 16 bit). You'll probably recognize the Adagio from Barber's String Quartet, but the rest is not overly familiar, and, by turns, melodic, witty, dramatic.

James Ehnes gets top billing, and I very much enjoy his performance of the Copland Violin Sonata, but his Seattle colleagues all play beautifully. Excellent sound quality as well.

It was so good listening to their first album again so I thought that I should give their second one a stream. I can't remember the last time I played this but it was a long time ago for sure.

This particular version of their album including the Live Filmour East, Fairfield Hall and BBC session additions is really excellent and something I come back to time and time again. Highly recommended but getting toward silly money to buy nowadays.

Not the Fairfield Hall, Croydon, surely? It's hardly the Filmour East. That said, I saw Sonny Rollins there...

This is slowly growing on me. I like Schumann, I like Isabelle Faust, but it's taking longer than I expected

Transcendental Blues

Not one of his best but still worth a listen

Yep, the Fairfield Hall Croydon. Decades since I was there but it was a good venue and it has seen a lot of good / great bands pass through.
