Bebel Gilberto - Tanto Tempo .

Just Beautiful , just flicking through some old tunes this evening . I was very fortunate to share a couple of years with a beautiful Brazilian girl in my late 20's , we spent quite a lot of time in Brazil where I discovered Bebel . Happy Days .

Kuma I have posted a reply to you but it's awaiting admin' approval for some reason. Maybe the reply was too long?

Thanks Steve.

Hope your reply appears. Sometimes, text sort of disappears off to the black hole.

Wish MM would reissue above LP in 33.

I do too. I have just recently begun to pick up a few titles and they have been really great.

Jackson Browne. Looking East. On CD from 1996. My first listen. All my other JB albums are from the 1970s-80s, on vinyl, so I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. It's a surprisingly consistent sound to his previous work, a good thing in my mind, and Waddy Wachtel's guitar provides a familiar anchor to the music. Reminds me I need to track down a copy of Standing In The Breach.

Red Hot Chili Peppers. Greatest Hits. On CD from 1994. The band has 10 studio albums and 12 compilations, this being one.

Perfect after a violent storms and hail.

Cool fresh breeze coming from the window and this squeaky clean Haydn sonata compliments a quiet evening.

Thanks I have that one as well - it's good but not on the level of brilliance of the other one in my opinion....

Some pleasant Berlin School in the background to start the day.

Rolled Gold. The Very Best of the Rolling Stones (1975). 2 LP. A recent buy, I've been enjoying this lately, a UK import to me. Shares a degree of overlap with my US pressing of "Hot Rocks" but has the big advantage of using the original mono on earlier tracks rather than 'rechannelized stereo'.

Pablo Casals: Schumann Concerto & Encore pieces from Casals Festival 1950 recording.

A wonderful LP which made me appreciate Casals art much more so than his Brandenburg Concerti from the Casals Festival.

Schumann's Cello Concerto is a great discovery with a lot of fresh ideas from the composer's later work. (1850) There is no virtuoso moments but Casals’ fiddling here is full of humanity ( even his grunting noise is kept in the mix ).

Side B is entirely filled with his encore pieces from the same Festival.

From heart-rending 'Song of the Birds' to Bach's Aria, Haydn's sonata and, de Falla, I think I understood why he is so highly regarded. The way he plays is no longer a tune but his music sounds like he's talking rather than he's playing. The instrument just comes a device for him to express *feelings*. This is very personal performance and hard to ignore and not being carried away. Most cellist sounds so light weight and shallow next to Casals.

Arclight by ARC (June 2015)

Listening to the final three tracks (40 minutes worth) of their new material. Well up to ARCs usual high Berlin School standards.

One of the first records I ever owned. Bought it with a gift certificate I won as a raffle prize at my school fete! I still have it, but no TT.

This is an excellent recording of them playing live in a church during The Gatherings concert series in Philadelphia 2009. Great sound quality here and still one of their best albums.

"Their music is deeply routed in the traditions of the German synthesizer music of the 1970's and as such they employ a vast range of vintage analogue equipment not the least of which is Shreeve's massive Moog IIIC modular system."

Agree. I think Church may be their best. Veil has wonderful bass synth lines!

Bert,

Your posts often show a snip/bitmap of the Naim app, like this one.

How do post a snip-it/view from the Naim app on the forum? Tell us how!

Thanks,

Bert

P.S. already recovered from North Sea Jazz Festival (ears, feet, throat?)

One of my very first too! I always liked the ordering of this selection.
