Bert!

Have you ripped 5700 CD's? Wow!  I heard one guy in Utrecht had ripped 8000 CD's, incredible.

How long does it take to hear 8000 CD's? Assume you play 3 CD's per night, 5 days per week, 48 weeks per year, you still need 11 years to hear them once!

While not everything is a rip - also some of them are downloads. However checking the tags etc is the same amount of work.

I think it took me close to 5 months to get it done. And basically meant that I was having my PC in the living room and always exchanging CD's while watching TV etc. On weekend or holidays I could normally get to about 60-70 CD's a day. So yes it was a crazy type of job. But it's behind me - so I am happy.....

Impressive, Bert. Seriously impressive.

Hmmm. Haven't heard any Cars in years, and never replaced my vinyl versions of their albums with CDs.  Might look this up and get reacquainted with the band.

A while since I've played this. Relaxing in an almost soporific way.

As an aside, my only CD with one of those strange rubber bungs in the case to hold the CD in place.

I can imagine. I'm ripping a lot of classical music which takes quite some extra time as I want to have in the title the year the piece was written, the year it was recorded and by who. I also look for the original LP album cover as art work.

It can take a lot of time to find the above, especially for compilation CD's and older CD's. But the most is done now.

Playing CD1 of 2 for now and trying to get into this. I was slightly disappointed when I first heard it weeks ago so I'm trying again.

Cd1 of this great collection.

Posted on: 15 July 2015 by MDS

Bought this ages ago but only got around to playing it for the first time this evening.  The performance is good - lots of energy - but the enjoyment is let down by the thin and flat recording.  I've found that recordings of live open-air performances are often let down by failing to properly capture the bass, rendering bass guitar and kick-drum pale imitations of the real thing.  This recording is one of them. Ah well.

I missed your point on the listening aspect. Indeed you have a point, and I am sometimes sad about it - knowing I will not hear everything on a regular base. The problem is that while I have a huge collection, n a regular base new music comes out which attracts me, so it's a kind of addiction as well. The only benefit is that I always have something which fits my mood.

Some very early Mary Black.  Simpler than her later work but in some ways all the more beautiful for it. Oh, and if Mary's voice is not enough, the sax on Crusader is sublime.

Sax, bass, drums....very often an exciting combination....as in this live recording...
