Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Full Moon Fever, one of those rare perfect albums that has no bad tracks. Really excellent rock album and highly recommended.  24 brilliant bits via Audirvana/hugo

Second listen to this new purchase.  Yes, I'm impressed with this new style for Ms Gardot.  First class reproduction quality too.  I have tickets to see her in November so I'm now especially interested to hear her perform some of this live. Hope she got the backing band to suit.

If she has the band of North Sea Jazz, you are in for a treat. A broad backing band with quality, was a special concert....

Do I really need to give a reason for listening to this?

Again a good accessible album from Vijay Iyer, he has also produced some lower quality albums in between......

Ok - so I'm (almost) new here, and after a few years playing with other stuff I'm running in my brand new naim system, so something that doesn't mind the hard edges while it beds in.

By god my foots tappin though !!!

Paula Fernades Ao Vivo - brazilian folk/country - nice lady, nice voice, nice songs. If I understood Portuguese more would be even better, but at least my girlfriend can translate!

A classic in its day.  Mind you, whenever I hear the Bee Gees I can't help but think of the superb send-up of them by Kenny Everett.  But yes, who could resist the beat to this album and sound-track?

I'll second you on the everett send up. That chap was comedic mayhem genius !

I'll get round to some more proper stuff once the systems settled, but in the meantime one of the better compilations of an era that had it's fair share of groundbreaking & dire all at once.

Starting the evening with Sawallisch's Brahms 4.

It's smooth and pretty but a bit bland for my taste.

Kleiber/Vienna Phil Brahms 4 1980 recording

He takes on somewhat of elegant floaty approach. More in an operatic style. The top of the 3rd movement is a double take on his Fledermaus Overture!

Kleiber does not dwell on the notes keeping the music on a lighter side of things.

Dynamic and full of expression but there is an ease and not so intense.

I read that they were friends but not sure if I want brahms played in Johann Strauss II style.

Johann & Johannes.

Sensitively played and beautifully rendered by Hopkinson Smith.

"Hopkinson Smith's own transcriptions of the first three of Bach's Cello Suites, played on the German theorbo. Smith explains in his excellent notes that this is a theorbo (a larger cousin of the lute) with double courses on the bass strings, giving a deep, resonant sound."

trio Jazz, quite traditional, but also with a couple of enjoyable surprise.
