The live album of Posthumous Silence, most of it's even better then the studio album....at some point in time on the 2nd side the voice is a bit challenged...

Cooling off after a run with a tromba and a pianoforte. Another recommended EGEA album.

Great young artist...

Red Hot Chili Peppers. Mother's Milk (1989). On EMI vinyl from 2009. Likely the worst mastering of music on vinyl I've had the displeasure of hearing. A waste of 180 grams of vinyl in my bombastic opinion.

Surprisingly '57 Klemperer/Philharmonia Brahms's 4th is a disappointment.

More reserved than usual, lofty 1st movement, stodgy Andanante, 3rd movement is tripping all over the place ( like an aging elephant trying to get up ) The finale is overly laboured and no sense of lyricism.

Makes me wonder if Klemperer was all there.

Walter/NYP Brahms 4 1951 recording

Toscanini/NBC Brahms Symphony 4 1951 recording.

Both were recorded on the same year but with different label ( Water: Columbia 30th st. Studio in Feb. vs. Toscanini: RCA Carnegie Hall in Dec. ) What Toscanini brings to the table over Walter is the clarity and precision. Crisp rendition with much livelier up front attitude. There’s so much more colours and moods packed in spite shorter overall length. ( Total running time is 36 min. whereas Walter set is over 41 min. )

The tune never feels too fast due to firm and well judged note delivery. explosive 1st movement with Toscanini firmly keeping the leash tight on the orchestra. It’s a less fluid intro than Walter but Toscanini’s direction is rhythmic and dazzling.

Andante is a lot less sleepy and opposite energy level from Walter’s. The tension and release are managed so well the music does not lose the interest even at a placid segment. 3rd movement opens with happy jovial feel. LIvely as Kleiber but weightier. I appreciate chimes also have shorter decays so they don't linger around more than necessary.

4th rolls in with full of confidence. Massed strings do not lose textures keeping firm shape. Wider dynamics gives the variations more compelling to listen to. This is so far the most potent 4h. But the EMI Testament reissue of 52 recording with Philharmonia is said to be *the* one.

Chilled rework of original.

"When rock stars do too much cocaine, they tend to do ridiculous things, like drive cars into motel swimming pools, or hire hit men to snuff out their bassist, or make Be Here Now. David Bowie, on the other hand, produced Station to Station, an album he allegedly doesn't remember making, but which, ironically, stands as his most immaculately constructed album, and the most important tactical transition in a career built upon aesthetic reinvention."

Yes indeed his voice on this recording is not the best - and has he does the stuff at the edge of his reach and some voice tricks it could be a problem, he is of course also not active in a band with a regular tour schedule....., so most probably also not enough exposure..... However the studio recording is great....

Very pleasant and with a great piano tone in the first piano concerto....

This is an excellent new recording of Biber's Sacred and Profane Sonatas. Lovely.
