Yesterday and today - the clear trend for me has been Schubert Moments musical and the Impromptus.  Such intimate music.  One on one in quietness at the piano.   Anti-social music for sure and what could be more pleasurable than this?  The world is just too noisy anyway.  It is the best music therefore, this that draws you closer to yourself and the natural world.

Florestan,

In April you posted Schubert's Impromptu D.899 by David Fray and Maria Pires. I like them both, as they show excellent playing technique and sound quality.

I'm also comparing the same D.899 Impromptu played by Murray Perahia, Wilhelm Kempff, Radu Lupu and Andras Schiff (all available on this wonderful thing called Spotify)

I have not found my favourite yet, although my initial preference is on Pires, Lupu and Fray, as they play with elegance and sensitivity. Perahia has an excellent version of the 4th Impromptu

Which performer do you like best?

Antonio Forcione  "Sketches of Africa"

Download 16/44 - WAV

If you are already an Antonio Forcione fan, if you like easy listening guitar and/or jazz and/or any music from Africa .... (I am all of these) ....  this is a must have,  it is simply an uplifting pleasure from beginning to end.     Its mostly instrumental but the vocal tracks all add that unique feel of Africa.

The album is composed, arranged and produced by Antonio & includes his long established quartet,  plus vocals from Seckou Keita (Sen), Chiwoniso Maraire (Zim), Juldeh Camara (Gam) & Zamo Mbutho (SA).

A slow burner of an album. Very mellow and a nice recording too.

High res 24bit download from Qobuz:

Jeff Beck - Live+

Fantastic live album from Jeff Beck, and a recording with tremendous dynamics which I think clearly demonstrates the benefits of hi-def delivery.

Somewhat of an eclectic mix of music, but with a very much more "bluesy" feel to some of the tracks than usual of late, and with a really good guest blues vocalist.

A really powerful album, and one that I find myself listening to time and time again.

Yes, it's a good album, I like it a lot. The studio track Tribal is probably my favourite, it really does rock and has some real punch to it.

Dukas' massive Piano Sonata, often called the French Hammerklavier after Beethoven's equally daunting masterpiece.

Life, Death, Love And Freedom

Another great set of songs from the American troubadour, his first album produced by T Bone Burnett with a stripped back sound that relies on JM's excellent lyrics to carry the songs.
