'Distances' by Norma Winstone (vocals), Glauco Venier (piano) and Klaus Gesing (bass clarinet & soprano sax). Very atmospheric and perfect for chilling out on a wet afternoon. Excellent recording, as are others from ECM Records. Try also 'Changing Places' and 'Being There' by the Tord Gustavsen Trio, and 'January' by the Marcin Wasilewski Trio.

To counteract the pouring rain outside. The album cover seemed to suit somehow.

This is another excellent bootleg. Mellotron, sequencers, Edgar wig-out, the lot. Not a bad recording either.

Ooh that reminds me I really must play some Tangerine Tree.

(1996)

One of my favourite PT albums, playing CD2 of 2

Did this one make it as part of the Bootmoon series?

Does anyone know whether Heike is still active?

No Bootmoon of this concert, though it looks like Esoteric are releasing this bootleg (which also features a Saarbrucken gig from 76) along with the stellar Reims concert from 76 in the autumn. Esoteric usually do a great job on reissues, but these will still be bootlegs in origin so sonic wonders are not anticipated.

Gary, thanks for the info about the Reims 1976 concert. I must have missed that one. I have a few of the old 1976 T. Tree concerts courtesy of Heike (Mannheim/Saarbruecken Universitaet, Brussels, Nottingham and Paris, Palais du Sport) together with Bilbao and Berlin which were part of the official Orange Bootleg Box Set.

Will keep an eye out for the Esoteric issues.

Edit: Just looked on the Esoteric website and see that Cherry Red records have reissued a remastered version of the 7 CD Orange Bootleg Box set including an illustrated booklet and essay.

Super PT and probably my last for tonight.

Eagles. Hotel California. On original vinyl from 1976. This album, like so many other roiginals I have from the 1970s, typifies what was magical about SQ during the all analog, tube guitar amp period in recording.

Coming up next. I think this is the concert Gary was referring to a soundboard FM recording of the Tangs at Reims Notre Dame cathedral on 13 December 1974 originally released as Live! Improvised.

"Pianist Chick Corea in 1996 gathered together some notable young all-stars (tenor-saxophonist Joshua Redman, trumpeter Wallace Roney, altoist Kenny Garrett, bassist Christian McBride, plus veteran drummer Roy Haynes) for explorations of tunes by the innovative pianist Bud Powell. Although "Bouncin' With Bud," "Tempus Fugit" and "Celia" have been occasionally recorded by others, most of the complex songs (including "Mediocre," "Dusk In Sandi," "Oblivion" and "Glass Enclosure") have rarely been played in recent decades. Rather than play revivalist bebop, Corea and his associates (after authentically stating the melody) perform modern post bop improvisations in their own styles, so much of the music is way beyond bop. In addition to nine Powell songs, Corea contributed a song rightfully titled "Bud Powell." All of the talented musicians have a fair amount of solo space and sound consistently inspired, making this a very successful and easily recommended project. "

The Cars. Eponymous debut on original vinyl from 1978. One of my most played LPs during my high school years. Still plays and sounds great today .

John Cougar. John Cougar. On vinyl from 1979. I like this album. Contains his original version of "I Need A Lover", probably more famously covered by Pat Benetar, at least in the US.

Lee Ritenour: RIT1 & RIT2

Early 80s Ritenour is less funk and smooth jazz  synthetic 80s sound. He also added a white falsetto singer ( Erik Tagg ) which makes them even more dated (he reminds me of a dude with a *Memebers Only* jacket.)

RIT1's Side B 'Countdown' is just about the only tune I like. Ritenour is best heard live. He's far more aggressive and playful than most of his records. I've heard him do Hendrix impersonation and was stunned he was really good.

I had a couple of CD's with music from Tartini but never gave him importance. Last week I received this box after a recommendation and I am very impressed with his work. Put a ear on it if you haven't.
