Have played this a few times now and I'm seriously impressed. Among Melody's albums I've always felt that Worrisome Heart had stood head-and-shoulders above the rest but this new album might have displaced it.

A post by Steve J earlier in the week reminded me that i hadn't played this for ages.

Now remedied

Having earlier listened to her new album, Currency of Man, and compared it to what I regarded as her best album, Worrisome Heart, I thought I'd give the latter a play. My word it's good.  Think I'll settle on both being brilliant albums with new one being 'different' in style.  Well done, Ms Gardot.

Van Gelder recorded it harkens back to the old Blue Note era.

Feel good relaxed performance but it's a bit of a rerun in that no new insights.

I'd agree - It's a close one. Great music.

A great piece of music to end the evening with...

10cc, The Original Soundtrack.  Excellent, creative album thats full of great songs and, of course, features the brilliant I'm Not In love.

And the last album of the weekend is Only By The Night, an excellent album by the Kings of Leon that made them a bit of a household name in the UK when it came out.  Flac via audirvana/hugo

Serkin/Toscanini/NBC: Beethoven Piano Concerto No.4 1944 Live recording.

One of my favourite 4th. Even Serkin here is unusually emotional under Toscanini's spell. Highly saturated and max dynamic contrasts with amazing 3rd movement finale. This set encapsulates Beethoven so well.

Serkin must have been Toscanini's favourite for the 4th as they played this score together 3 times back in 1936 with New York Philharmonic and this 1944 set was the last.

Right after Serkin/Toscanini set, Brendel set sounds so *normal* but gone are the sense of fun and adventure. This is your usual *respectable* Beethoven with polished elegance.

His gentle and smooth style seem better suited for Mozart program like this cover art Beethoven with entirely wrong Mozart outfit. :/

Glenn Gould/Lenny/NYP: Beethoven Piano Concerto No.2  1957 recording mono.

Excep for the middle movement the whole thing is set up like an operatic comedy.

Many reading treats this Haydn-esque tunes too prim and proper in that Beethoven personality gets buried or lost. Leave it to Lenny and Glen. Maybe this is not *proper* but boy this is fun!

The Kinks. The Singles Collection. On CD from 2004. Tonight I'm listening in my shop which is in my garage, so some garage style rock seemed apropos.
